Wimbledon Women’s Second Round. Fifth Ranked Samantha Stosur Upset By Dutch Woman Arantxa Rus 6-2 0-6 6-4!!

Once again, Australian tennis star Samantha Stosur is unable to rise to the occasion she loses in the second round of Wimbledon to Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands.

Rus defeated Stosur 6-2 0-6 6-4 and she played fearless tennis.  Rus was smart, she attacked Stosur’s weak backhand and she just broke it down.  Stosur hit numerous backhands into the net or long.

Tennis experts and fans have wondered why does Stosur do so poorly at Wimbledon?

Sam has only reached the third round of Wimbledon once in her entire career. Stosur has a huge first serve, excellent second serve, and a big forehand. Stosur also volleys very well but her backhand is weak and her mind is fragile.

A few weeks ago, Stosur lost in the French Open semifinals in a shocking upset to Italian woman Sara Errani. Today, Stosur seemed uncertain on the court she lacked composure and I think she needs to see a sports psychologist. I also believe Stosur needs to develop a better two handed backhand. Stosur’s one handed backhand is excellent she is able to slice and keep the ball low. Why didn’t Stosur use the one handed backhand on the slick grass court?

It looks like the expectations of being a grand slam champion have gotten to Stosur. Stosur won’t admit it, but her poor performances at the Australian Open and Wimbledon championships indicate she doesn’t like being the favourite. The reason Sam won the US Open over Serena Williams last year is nobody expected her to win. Stosur has a terrible record in WTA finals she’s 3-11 in her career.

Stosur has so much potential and a lot of talent but she just fails to play her best tennis when she needs to. It is so sad to see such a talented player end up being just a one slam wonder like Gabriela Sabatini  and Jana Novotna.

First Round Australian Open 2012 Shocking Upset: Sorana Cirstea Upsets US Open Champion Samantha Stosur 7-6 6-3!!!

Once again, Australian tennis star Samantha Stosur can’t handle the pressure performing at home! Sorana Cirstea upset Stosur 7-6 6-3 in the first round of the 2012 Australian Open.

Cirstea played well she attacked Sam’s weak backhand which she slices a lot and charged to the net. Samantha looked confused on the court and lost she wasn’t aggressive enough.

I believe Sam put too much pressure on herself she just doesn’t do well when she is expected to succeed. I thought Samantha had turned the corner when she blasted Serena Williams off the court at the US OPEN five months ago in September 2010 6-2 6-3.  The Australian media is also to blame they expect too much from Samantha she is a talented player but she is also very inconsistent!  Sam is too erratic, too up and down to become a top five or top three player.
