I am disgusted with the mainstream media reaction to the mainstream media with Stanslias Wawrinka incredible upset victory over Rafael Nadal. Nadal underestimated Stan he thought Stan would get scared or afraid to be in his first grand slam final. The script was Nadal would roll over Stan in three easy sets. However, this didn’t happen. Stan had a lot of belief despite having 0-12 record against Nadal. Remember, Stan had NEVER beaten Rafa before he NEVER even won set against Nadal until today.
Nadal decided to play dirty due to the fact he has a history of cheating. Nadal has cheated many players like Paul Henri Mathieu at the French Open, Juan Martin Del Potro at Wimbledon in 2011 and today against Stan. Whenever, Nadal is losing in a slam he always has a mysterious injury. Will the media call Nadal out for his cheating? Of course not!!1
The eighth seed Stan Wawrinka upset Nadal 6-3 6-2 3-6 6-3 to win his first grand slam singles title. Stan is now a grand slam singles champion he snaps the strangle hold of the big four in men’s tennis to win a slam. To put it into context Stan is the first man since Juan Martin Del Potro in 2009 to win a slam outside the big four. 2009 was over four years ago!
Also, Stan beat Novak Djokovic the four time Australian Open champion in the quarterfinals! So Stan deserves credit for his victory! Nadal has a history of cheating his opponents BUT you will not hear it in the press. The ESPN commentators are professional cheerleaders their job is to praise the top players the big four. For a long time tennis fans have complained men tennis is BORING. The top four players have dominated men tennis BUT they have also made it predictable. Finally tonight, one of the lower ranked players in the top 10 stood up, was mentally tough and won a grand slam.
Stan Wawrinka is no longer in his famous countryman Roger Federer shadow he has passed Federer. The reason Stan is tough opponent for Nadal than Federer is Stan has a better backhand. Stan has the ability to rip winners off his backhand side unlike Roger. Stan also has a more powerful serve than Roger.
Sloane Stephens Upsets Serena Williams At Australian Open But American Media Hype Might Hurt Her Career.
Yes, Sloane Stephens a nineteen year old American upset the tennis legend Serena Williams 3-6 7-5 6-4 in the Australian Open women’s quarterfinals. However, Serena was clearly injured she hurt her back in the middle of the second set and had back spasms. Stephens deserves credit for pulling off the upset although she almost let the match slip away when she had a 5-3 lead in the second set. Stephens did well to win, but the Americans have a tendency to hype up young talent. Does anyone remember Melanie Oudin from 2009? The USA media hyped Oudin, saying she’s the next Chris Evert yet the girl never was ranked in the top 30. By the way, Oudin lost in the first round of the Australian Open to Laura Robson a talented young British player. Jennifer Capriati was also hyped by the USA press back in the 1990s due to her early promise. However, when Capriati was unable to reach a grand slam final while in her teens she turned to drug use and shop lifting. Only, when Capriati left the WTA Tour and decided to make a comeback did she live up to her potential.
I am not knocking Sloane Stephens, I think the girl is clearly very talented. I am just concerned that the American media are going to put too much pressure on this young girl. Stephens has not won a WTA Tour event, she hasn’t even reached a WTA Tour final yet either. Stephens is good, and she deserves time to mature and live up to her talent.
First Round Australian Open 2012 Shocking Upset: Sorana Cirstea Upsets US Open Champion Samantha Stosur 7-6 6-3!!!
Once again, Australian tennis star Samantha Stosur can’t handle the pressure performing at home! Sorana Cirstea upset Stosur 7-6 6-3 in the first round of the 2012 Australian Open.
Cirstea played well she attacked Sam’s weak backhand which she slices a lot and charged to the net. Samantha looked confused on the court and lost she wasn’t aggressive enough.
I believe Sam put too much pressure on herself she just doesn’t do well when she is expected to succeed. I thought Samantha had turned the corner when she blasted Serena Williams off the court at the US OPEN five months ago in September 2010 6-2 6-3. The Australian media is also to blame they expect too much from Samantha she is a talented player but she is also very inconsistent! Sam is too erratic, too up and down to become a top five or top three player.
Does Rafael Nadal Fake Injuries & Make Excuses When He Loses Tennis Matches?
David Ferrer of Spain blasted Rafael Nadal off the court 6-4 6-2 6-3 to advance to his first Australian Open semifinal. Ferrer denied Nadal from winning all four grand slams in a row! Ferrer is only five foot nine but he is very aggressive, has an excellent return of serve, and is very mentally tough. Ferrer has beaten Nadal in a grand slam before at the 2007 US Open. The media will create excuses for Nadal losing to Ferrer but they are simply tarnishing Nadal’s legacy. It is very ungracious for Nadal and the media to exaggerate his injury just because he is losing.
Every tennis player loses matches including the great champions like Rafael Nadal. The truth is, David Ferrer just overpowered Nadal tonight. Nadal wasn’t injured he was faking it to save his face.
Nadal has a history of constantly making excuses when he loses matches. The result is still the same though a loss is still a loss.
Rafael is a great tennis champion I am not disputing this fact. However, Nadal’s propensity to create and exaggerate his injures is very disconcerting and reeks of unprofessionalism. If Nadal is so injured then why did he bother playing the match at all? Once Nadal sets on the tennis court, he must give his opponent credit.
The media must give David Ferrer credit. Ferrer is extremely talented but he doesn’t get respect even though he’s been ranked in the top 10 or 20 for most of his career. Ferrer simply outplayed Nadal and this is the truth. Ferrer mixed his game up and kept Nadal off-balance. Ferrer deserves credit for maintaining his aggression and not allowing Nadal back into the match.
