Is Actress Kerry Washington Making A Mistake For Agreeing To Star in Quentin Tarantino’s Slave Film Django Unchanied?

According to the website Deadline.com, actress Kerry Washington has agreed to star in Quentin Tarantino’s controversial slavery film Django Unchained. Django Unchained will be released in December 2012.

Kerry’s character Broomhilda, will be raped by white men multiple times in the film. According to the Django Unchained script,  there are suggestions that Broomhilda is “in love” with a white male slave master.

Is this really possible? Could a white slave master really fall in love with his female slave?  The black female slaves had no choice they either slept with the white male slave master or they were murdered. I don’t think it was “love” at all.

Also, some black women during slavery wanted their slave children to obtain freedom so they slept with the white master.

In fact, Broomhilda will also appear  nude in many scenes in the movie. I understand that interracial sex did occur during slavery because white men owned their black female slaves. I am not disputing that white men raped black women during slavery or had mixed race offspring.

However, I am concerned about Kerry’s decision to appear nude in the film and being raped multiple times by white men. Is Django Unchained just Quentin Tarantino’s racist sexual fantasy to treat the black female body as a sexual fetish for white men? I wonder, because Tarantino has a history of depicting black women in his movies in very sexualized and stereotypical roles.

Does Kerry really think appearing in a degrading film will launch her career to the A list?  I wonder if Kerry has thought it through? Why would Kerry want to take on such a degrading role? Isn’t Kerry cognizant of how Hollywood stereotypes black female sexuality as licentious?

I also wonder, is a slave movie the best role a young black actress can get in Hollywood?

Shocking Video: Who Is To Blame For The Aboriginal Housing Crisis On The Attawpiskat Reserve?

It seems every two or three years the Canadian media focus on a crisis in the Aboriginal communities. The new crisis on the Attawapiskat reserve is shocking seeing Canadians living in such poverty. Canada is one of the richest countries in the world, yet some Native people are living in third world conditions. The question is, who is to blame?  Of course, the Canadian government has a responsibility for the tragedy in Attawapiskat. However, what about the Native chiefs? Some Native chiefs have a lot of power and there are concerns of nepotism and unprofessional practices taking place on reserves. I think the media and Canadian society needs to pay more attention to Native chiefs these people have a role in this crisis too.

The government provides millions of dollars so where is the money going? Why doesn’t the media focus more on the role of these chiefs?   It is unacceptable that people live in homes with no clean water, proper housing,  or a toilet! It is such a disgrace and I hope the United Nations condemns Canada for treating Aboriginal people so terribly.

Another point to consider is, some Canadians believe Aboriginal people receive too many “hand outs” from the Canadian government and this contributes to a cycle of poverty.  Some critics believe Native people need to “integrate” and “assimilate” more into Canadian societies. Would it really make a difference if Aboriginal people live on a reserve or in a major city?  Are the reserves actually a symbol from the past and needs to be abolished? Or are the reserves important to Native Canadians because some people feel safer and have strong emotional ties to their own community.

Is the government to blame for making some First Nations people too dependent on government aid? Some critics have argued the problems on Native reserves in Canada are similar to the problems in third world countries. For instance, some third world nations consistently require aid from the developed world.

I am concerned about the  way the CBC, CTV, and other news outlets are reporting this crisis. Of course, the public has a right to know about the problems on reserves.  Why now? Why did the press decide now is the time to report about Attawapiskat? The racist comments I have read on message boards about Aboriginal people is abhorrent and also disappointing. I think the issue is complex and there is so simple solution.

I believe the legacy of racism cannot be ignored in relation to how Native people are perceived and treated in my country. What do you think? Who is blame  the Canadian government  the chiefs? Let me know your opinion.

Sad News On Gay German Soap Forbidden Love: Christian and Oliver’s Marriage Is Over Their Divorce Is Official!!

After I watched Christian and Oliver’s divorce today I feel sad. I can’t believe Christian and Oliver’s marriage is over! Why can’t the producers of Forbidden Love allowed the guys to be happy? There is a paucity of positive images of gay men on television. Gay men we are stereotyped as promiscuous, bitchy, angry, and unhappy people. Of course, not all gay men are saints. However, I know it sounds corny but I felt good watching Christian and Oliver’s romance. I know I will never see this nice romantic  gay male relationship on Canadian television.
