Young Turks Discussion About Wayne Simmonds & Sean Avery Gay Slur Incident Is Racist & Problematic!!!

I watched the Young Turks episode about the Wayne Simmonds and Sean Avery gay slur incident yet feel the reporters are extremely unprofessional.

First, I felt the first reporter`s comment about Simmonds background to be extremely racist. We already know Wayne Simmonds is black, yet I do not recall

the journalist pointing out Sean Avery is white. The emphasis of the reporter to focus on Simmonds blackness is disturbing and also deleterious.

Of course, some black people are homophobic, I know this because of my own life experience as an openly gay black man. I am not defending homophobia at all!

I think it is very disappointing that Wayne Simmonds called Sean Avery a `faggot` especially after last week`s incident Simmonds endured in London Ontario.

However, I felt listening to the three `white reporters“ here they were framing their arguments and making racist and essentialist arguments.

The “white reporters“ focused a lot of their attention on Simmonds race and not his behaviour.  The issue here is Wayne Simmonds made a homophobic comment

yet the obvious racism of the “ white reporters“ they used a myopic lens to focus on Simmonds blackness.

Next, the discussion turns to rap music which clearly has no reason to be including in this NHL story. The only reason the three white reporters

decided to discuss rap music is because they wanted to make a connection to Wayne Simmonds blackness and stereotype black people as homophobic.

There was no discussion in this Young Turks video about the three reporters obvious prejudice and bigotry against the black race.

I did not hear or see any generalizations about white culture or white people in the video either.
