Good News: Racist Tennis Commentator Mary Carillo Got Fired From ESPN Television!!!
Mary Carillo was fired from ESPN television this week!! Carillo has a history of making racist and sexist comments against the Williams Sisters and tennis fans spoke up.
Good riddance Mary Carillo!!!
If tennis fans want to complain to ESPN television about any other tennis commentators here is the link.
LINK TO COMPLAIN TO ESPN TELEVISION:

I just goes to show that consumer can use their power to affect positive change. I think our voices were heard from the write-in and I feel it was the right decision and not a day to late.
I agree. She did make a lot of racist comments.I think she hated the William Sisters. However,I wanted her to stay because I loved to see her humbled when the sisters(Serena)would win. It would force her to congratulate her. Also, I dont believe she knew any better. People are ignorant and don’t know it sometimes.
I love Mary Carillo, I doubt she said anything extreme enough to get fired. If anyone high up in the tennis world is concerned about that, they should turn that energy to players who scream and grunt and screech at every point they play. It is disgusting and makes me want to mute any noise even though I’d miss commentators. Such noise puts a damper on my enjoying watching tennis.
And as for commentators, Jim Currier is mean and I don’t like him. He is a smart-ass who deserves to be fired.
Mary has often been a clear and critical voice on the sport of tennis. She had raised the issue of drug testing in sports and opined that it was high time that top tennis players be included in that testing program. She suggested that drug usage, or perhaps “performance-enhancing” drugs, was rampant. This was greeted with a loud silence, and she disappeared for a while.
She has been critical of the Williams sisters, but I do not believe that criticism was “racist:” the Williams sisters, especially Serena, were graceless in victory, more so in defeat.
I was unaware that Mary has been identified for her bias, but I must admit that I frequently hit “mute” when she is commentator. She trivializes both Williams sisters, and she pounces whenever Serena loses her temper (which happens every couple of years). I found myself reeling when she ranted about Serena’s “grunting” on the court. While she said it, Serena’s opponent was also grunting. It didn’t seem to phase Mary who waited until the young lady stopped and then said, “Look! Serena hit a shot without grunting. It can be done.” The next day, men grunted loudly and Mary didn’t seem to be bothered with the noises. By contrast, Johnny Mac gives keen insights and appears to have respect for the Williams sisters. Perhaps Mary should just be quiet and listen to the more professional behavior of her colleague. I really get tired of my love of tennis getting violated by such obvious bias!!
I love Mary. She is the smartest, wittiest, sharpest commentator I’ve ever seen….a Rachel Maddow of tennis. I am noticing that none of the supposed racist comments were listed. There is NO WAY Mary would say a sexist or racist thing. Hello…Mary is a woman. Racist?? That RIDICULOUS.
OK, I am noticing your screen name. Are you black? Perhaps you are extra sensitive. If someone criticizes someone, and they are black, it is not criticism of their race. Get over it.
Maybe because Mary was such a failure in tennis that all she knows is too pounce on other’s. Maybe out of envy, bitterness or she knows how to stir the pot to attract audiences. People who work in front of the camera daily are like motivators/instigators while doing a job. If they can not compete for viewing audiences like a local newscaster, then boom! They are replaced due to low ratings though, look at Oprah Winfrey she was the queen. Like Howard Stern the king of all media and sticky subjects do contribute to water cooler conversation.
