Brandy broke down in tears as Bristol Palin controversially pipped her to a place in the Dancing With The Stars final.

The 31-year-old singer could not hide her distress after learning she and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy had been eliminated in the public vote – despite getting a higher score than Palin and Mark Ballas.

As hosts Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke revealed she was going home, Brandy managed a wry smile in Palin’s direction.

But when cameras cut back to the R&B star after showing her ‘best bits’, she had tears streaming down her face.

Winning a place in the Dancing With The Stars final was the latest in a string of upsets caused by Palin’s popularity.

Sarah Palin’s daughter has repeatedly been voted safe by the public, despite clocking lower scores than her competitors.

The 20-year-old activist and partner Ballas looked shocked after being told they had secured a place in the final – and their fellow finalists could not hide their surprise either.

Both Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough, and Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer, had jumped for joy upon learning they had been voted through to the Dancing With The Stars final.

But Hough’s mouth fell open and Massey stood with his hands on his hips as they discovered Brandy was going home.

Despite a rumoured rift with Palin, Chmerkovskiy was gracious in defeat and said he respected the public’s decision.

‘People vote and their voices count, and I love the fact that the show represents that,’ he said.

‘I don’t regret a second of the last five years of my being on the show and definitely not a second of me being on this season. It’s been an amazing journey.’

Brandy, on the other hand, confessed: ‘I don’t know how to feel right now. It hasn’t processed yet for me.’

Grey, 50, Massey, 19, and Palin, 20, will compete for the coveted mirror ball trophy in next week’s live final.

THE TEA PARTY WAS IN EFFECT HAVING TEA PARTIES ON THE NIGHT AND THEY VOTED IN BLOCKS. I dont watch the show BUT I heard on the black talk staions this AM. people called in and were PISSED. I have seen snipets of Palin dancing and she should have been elimainated a LONG time ago. To be fair to her she has improved BUT to have beaten Brandy who has natural rythm, style and was easy on the floor. Palin should NOT have beaten her.. Even Palin herself seemed suprised. I can bet there will be ???? about the judging for days to come.

Hello Victor I agree it seems the Tea Party and other conservative Americans voted for Bristol Pailn. I also wonder why is Bristol on the show? Since when is it acceptable to be a teen mom? What message is ABC sending to other young teens by having Bristol on the show?
Bristol is lucky her parents are wealthy they can help her raise her child. However, for millions of teen moms in America their lives are very hard because it is very expensive to take care of a baby. A teenager is not emotionally mature enough to become a parent. What kind of message is Bristol Palin sending to other young teen girls? She is only on the show because her mother is famous and she hasn’t earned her fame.

    The Honorable Thing
I think people are very upset by ABC’s mixing politics with art. Art is the voice of the people, and when we can’t even have that, I think we are ready to throw in the towel, not only with DWTS, but politicians and our government, as well. If Bristol is as wonderful as a few posters keep insisting, and that she represents the people, she missed her golden opportunity Tuesday night to prove everyone wrong about her. If she had any honor, she would have conceded to Brandy, thanked the people for their support, and allow Brandy to take her rightful place in the finals. It would have been good for little Bristol’s soul to have done that. I do not consider Bristol a stupid person; she knows she didn’t deserve to even be in the semi-finals. It’s still not too late, Bristol. If you truly think you represent the people, then let Brandy have a chance at the trophy. Just ask yourself, “what am I doing, competing with Jennifer Grey? If I win out over Jennifer, what are people going to think of me? What will I think of myself, knowing Jennifer is 10 times the dancer I will ever be?” It’s not too late, Bristol. Call the show, and abdicate. It is the only honorable thing to do. Art belongs to the people, and now, even than has been taken away from us. Allow Jennifer to have some real competition with Brandy, and lets finally end this farce.

Did you hear about the guy that was so angry that Palin advanced that he shot his TV.

Yes, I read about it. Further proof that people are very upset about politics invading true art and talent. We have just had 2 months of the most inane campainging, with no serious issues discussed, everything rammed down our throats, no true voting choices; and now DWTS does this. I can understand the man’s anger. Rob us of one little moment of joy in the dance. Brandy was robbed, big time. Jennifer was robbed of competing with another talented dancer.

would hate to think of the flack Palin would have to put up with if she wins over Jennifer Gray or the other dancers in the top 3.
