Wonderful! Congratulations. One of my fave papers.
Hi Colette thanks for your comment I appreciate it!!
Congratulations…Hopefully this opens the door a little wider
Hello Veri, thanks I appreciate your comment and support.
Nice piece, Orville. Nuanced and perceptive. Read through the
comments and why am I not surprised that they were all extolling
the “post-racial” reasons why Serena Williams is not championed
by the sports press (and many tennis fans)?
It has long been fascinating to me the response to Serena
Williams. As a white man who finds her a remarkable athlete
(and a remarkable individual who has put up with a gracious
generosity of spirit so much racist vitriol from tennis followers),
I cringe at the microscope she is viewed under.
Thanks much for the article. Here’s one tennis fan who is in
complete agreement with you.
Have also wondered over the years if there isn’t some
unease on the part of males about Serena’s sheer muscularity.
She is unabashedly strong, physically powerful, far more
muscular than probably 95% of men (which includes me, that’s
for sure!). The fragile male ego at work, perhaps?
GREAT great article on the Williams Orville, very true and unfortunately extremely sad still in this day and age!
Best Damn post of the week!
