You Tube Clip: Video May Provide Clues To Explaining The Reasons Tyler Perry Struggles With His Sexuality.

Top Six Reasons Tyler Perry May Indeed Be Gay from Village Voice Blog:

Henry replies to Village Voice writer Michael Musto on his blog he Says:

Michael, yes, he is gay. As a gay Black man, I understand the rigors the non-gay Black, bigoted community will put you through. I can only imagine it’s doubly so if you’re in the limelight. Why do I think he’s gay? Let me count the ways:

1)His obsession with gay icons (Janet Jackson who can’t act her way out of a bag, Jill Scott, Angela Bassett and every other female lead cast in his films)

2)Man crush my ass. Every male in his films are physically perfect and tend to look like Tyson Beckford.

3) His new BFF is janet Jackson, saving her from embarrassing failed album after embarrassing failed album. She’s now shooting her 3rd, count ’em, 3rd film with him. Watch him come to the Jackson family’s defense over some issue he knows nothing about on Oprah. I was like, “Shut up, closet queen.”

4) His dates to the black award shows always look like rent-a-dates. Models from the nearest John Casablancas “talent pool”. They sit together never speaking and never touching.

5) Madea is his thinly veiled outlet allowing him the opportunity to do drag. Poorly, I might ad. He must infuse “God” and “jesus” into every other line or the good Baptist black folks would be on to him.

6) And the majority of black men his age in this country who don’t have a girlfriend, don’t have kids and live in Atlanta, the gay mecca, are, in fact, gay.

He’ll come out once he’s worth $1 billion. Then, he’ll be teflon. Mark my words. He’ll make a HUGE splash about it.

    No No No No!

We can’t replace one stereotype with another one and add another one. Tyler Perry is a movie director. So he lives in Atlanta, if he were living in Rockville, Maryland, then what? Or if he decided to live in Omaha, Nebraska, what will he be then? He is a black man that found his success in Atlanta! Mentioning that he has Janet Jackson, Jill Scott and Angela Bassett on his set is another example why he must be gay! Look, he like other black directors, like Spike Lee are keeping these good actress as well as other black actors, EMPLOYED! a word that is not too common in our community these days.

As far as him dressing up as MADEA, look Jaime Fox dressed up on that show In Living Color. Eddie Murhpy did it in Norbid and Martin Lawerence did it for years from his tv show Martin. So, what makes Tyler Perry different from the rest of these other black men? Is it just because they overtly announce their sexual preference or their overt masculinity is a key sign that they have never thought or indulge into homosexuality?

Lastly, the notion that Tyler Perry will suddenly come out once he’s worth $1Billion dollars is sad. Its sad, because, its assuming that all his hard work was for nothing, just so he can be in a place to suddenly announce that he is gay. As I said it before on this blog. Tyler Perry is a movie director who happens to be Black. Just because he makes movies relating to a different side of the black experience in America, doesn’t mean that he is going to have his personal relationship on the plate. I will say this much, we need to stop or even hoping that Tyler Perry will come out of the closet. He will not be a spoke person of gay life and gay issues. I agree that our community need to embrace all different sides of our race, but replacing one stereotype with another will not help our cause.

John have you ever heard of gay dar? I just sense watching the Oprah interview that Tyler Perry may be conflicted about his sexual orientation.

Perry comes across as a very religious man and sadly these kinds are the closet cases that struggle a lot with their homosexuality.

I understand the black Christian community is very homophobic, but if you pay attention to Tyler Perry’s work the homosexuality

is present in his movies it is SO OBVIOUS!

I disagree with you John about Tyler Perry needing $1 billion to come out. Tyler Perry has so much power in Hollywood he is the male

Oprah NOBODY can tell Tyler Perry what to do he is that powerful. He can do whatever he wants in Hollywood he has that kind of power!

The reason Perry WON’T come out is because he is fearful that he may LOSE his power.

The Black Christians are a homophobic bunch of anti gay bigots they blindly ignore the homoeroticism in Perry’s movies.

There is a don’t ask don’t tell policy the black homophobes have with Perry. So Perry decides to play the game of staying in the

      closet to collect his cash.

The reason SOME black gays we criticize Tyler Perry is because he reiterates the homophobia in his movies while not calling out the

anti gay bigots in the black community. In the movie Why Did I Get Married Too close to the end of the movie was a very homophobic

scene with an effeminate black gay man jumping out of a cake.
John, I think the reason some people question Tyler Perry’s sexual orientation is due to the homoerotic themes and the hypocrisy of his movies. The hypocrisy is Perry preaches about Christianity in his movies yet there is a lot of homoerotic undertones in his movies. The homosexual aspect to Perry’s movies are so obvious!

Now for example, the character Madea some people will say that well Eddie Murphy, Flip Wilson, Jamie Foxx, Martin Lawerence did drag so can Tyler.

However, the character Madea comes across as drag performance to me than just a man wearing a dress.

Also, when I watch Tyler Perry’s movies there is a queer aspect to his work. Look at the incredibly gorgeous black men in his movies! Tyler selects these men! Shemar Moore, Rick Fox, Idris Elba, I can go on and on!

Another reason people see the homoerotic theme in Tyler Perry’s movies is the melodrama his movies come across like a romance novel. The movies are a bit predictable, the black woman has to struggle, she will meet her black knight and then have some problems. However, in the end the black woman and the black knight have a happy ending!

There are reasons I think he might be gay. But not because he employs beautiful actors and actresses. He is a really good and sought after director with very influential and high placed friends and allies.

I just have a feeling that he and oprah both might be gay. They both ping my gaydar bigtime.

I like tyler Perry b but i nsense that he is really conflicted around his sexuality. I saw him on Oprah winfrey and he seems to have difficulty accepting that he may be having feelings for men. I sense that religion plays a big part in these conflicts. I at times feels empathy for him .. at his age He should by now be able to find a peace within himself wher he can feel some sense of peace and acceptance but he seems unable to do so. Did anyone read Dr David Malbranche open letter to Oprah,He lambasted her for her handling of the Black Men on the downlow show a few weeks past.

I agree Victor, I sense Tyler is indeed conflicted about his sexual orientation. I think Tyler is gay and he is fighting his attraction to other men. I understand Tyler was abused as a child and he is very religious he probably thinks it is wrong to be gay. I actually feel sorry for Tyler I hope he can get good counseling from a gay and lesbian counseling center or see a psychologist. Tyler needs to know it is okay to be gay and to be sexually attracted to other men.
