Is It Time For Venus Williams & Justine Henin To Retire From Women’s Tennis?
Seven time grand slam singles champions Venus Williams of the United States and Justine Henin of Belgium have failed to win grand slams this year.
Venus hasn’t won a major in two years and Justine hasn’t won a slam in almost three years.
Serena Williams is dominating the grand slams since September 2008, she’s won five out of the last eight majors.
Serena is just getting more confident and one woman can challenge her consistently at the grand slams.
Meanwhile, Venus Williams continues to capitulate in the big matches. Venus pathetic loss to Na Li of China in the Australian Open Quarterfinals was a joke! Venus had a 6-2 5-3 lead yet found a way to lose. At the French Open, Venus played well she reached the Madrid final only to lose to a young French player. I was shocked that Venus was blasted by Nadia Petrova in the fourth Round in Paris.
I think Venus is just too old and slow. Venus Williams shocking quarterfinal loss at Wimbledon proves her time at the top may be over?
Justine Henin return to women’s tennis this year produced mixed results. Henin managed to reach the Australian Open 2010 final, but she lost to Serena Williams.
Henin is too stubborn, she wanted to win Wimbledon this year but she failed once again to win the only slam that alludes her. Henin believes she must play a more aggressive game but slugging it out with the other top women was never her strength. Henin needs to improve her serve, recapture the mental toughness, and consistency that helped elevate her to the top of women’s tennis.
However, Henin’s shocking fourth round loss to Samantha Stosur at the French Open proved she may no longer be a contender.

i think it’s too early to judge justine, she is coming out of retirement. the attitude and mentality to pick up the game again is very different from an injury time out. she has won at least a slam very year 2003-2007, and this is the only one year she doesn’t.
This is going to sound bad but I couldn’t care less about Henin and her career. As far as I’m concerned it wasn’t necessary for her to come out of retirement. The only reason people wanted her to come back is because they wanted to see her beat everyone, specifically Serena and Venus . She couln’t even do well at her domain, the French Open.
As for Venus, I wonder if the number 2 ranking she achieved earlier this year did her more harm than good. Perhaps she thought that being ranked #2 indicated that she was playing great tennis. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Venus, but any fool would know that she hasn’t been playing great at all. She’s won many matches so far this year, but some of her wins were unimpressive and all of her losses were appalling. As far as I’m concerned, Serena is the only person in the top 10 that is impressing me, so anyone else in the top 10 could be ranked #2 without having to play well.
I hate to say it but Venus’s tennis the last couple of years has been poor by her standards. Then again, she has been carrying more injuries than people realise.
In answer to the question, I really don’t know if Venus should consider retiring. I don’t know what the future holds. Only Venus knows what she needs to do.
Hi Ashley, I agree that Venus has not lived up to her potential in the past two years. I am starting to wonder if Venus is finished as a contender? Venus is now thirty years old and she’s only going to get older.
Meanwhile, Serena is just getting better and better. I feel Serena will be unchallenged unless she gets injured.
