Venus Williams Upset In The Finals Of The Madrid Masters.

Aravane Rezai of France shocked Venus Williams in the finals of the Madrid Masters 6-2 7-5. Rezai is a talented young player, she upset Justine Henin and Jelena Jankovic earlier this week.

Clay is Venus Williams worst surface but still this loss is just pathetic!

Although Venus Williams fans make excuses, I think time is running out for her.

Venus had several chances to extend the match into a third set. Venus  broke Rezai to lead 3-1 and 5-2 in the second set but her serve failed her.

Once again, Venus capitulated in a big match and she lost a huge opportunity to win a clay court Masters singles title.

Venus loss to Rezai is a huge disappointment because she had so many opportunities to win the match.

Venus turns thirty next month and I think her best days are behind her. Venus will rise to number two in the WTA Tour rankings next week despite losing to Rezai.  It seems Venus can`t  win a big match when it matters anymore.

I knew this would be a tricky match for Venus, but I still expected her to win. I wish I hadn’t wasted my time watching this match. It was a crock of sh!t.

Aravane played well. She hit powerful shots. That’s something Venus didn’t do. Venus kept hitting the ball back to her opponent with nothing on it, so it came as no surpise that Aravane hit most of the winners. I’m sure Aravane thought she was in a practice session because Venus kept hitting short balls right into her hitting zone.

I feel like there were plenty of balls Venus left that could have been hit. She was slow and seemed to have no energy or intensity. Venus hit balls that had nothing on them, yet she still managed to hit nunecessary unforced errors.

I don’t think the surface had anything to do with this loss. Venus just seemed a bit too casual in the match. She was playing casual tennis instead of purposeful tennis.

I watched the match on British Eurosport. The commentatoras kept talking about how Aravane Rezai is the ONLY player who hits every shot with 100% power and that’s why Venus was getting beaten in baseline exchanges. I nearly lost my mind when they said that. Venus relentlessly hit big shots back in the day, as did Serena, Lindsay Davenport, Kim Clijsters, Henin & Sharapova.

I’m glad that Venus is back at number 2 in the rankings. By the time the French Open starts Serena and Venus will be the top two seeds and thus will be in oppsite sides of the draw. This ranking system is strange. Venus played much better tennis in 2005, 2007 and 2008, yet she never made it into the top 5 during those times.

Hi Ashley, I was thinking that Venus may have underestimated Aravane. Aravane definitely played awesome tennis this week beating Venus, Justine Henin, and Jelena Jankovic. Aravane has also defeated Safina but her problem is she lacks consistency in her results.
