Author & Economist Dambisa Moyo Book “Dead Aid“ Challenges Celebrities,The Western World, & African Dictators. Ms. Moyo Says Foreign Aid Actually Hurts Africans.
Dambisa Moyo she is the author of the incendiary book `Dead Aid“. Ms. Moyo she was born in Zambia, she currently lives in London England. She is an economist, she holds a doctorate degree from Oxford University.
Ms. Moyo graduated with a Masters degree from Harvard University. In addition, Ms. Moyo she has a MBA in finance and a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from American University in Washington D.C.
Ms. Moyo has a cogent argument, her question is why haven’t African countries become economically independent? After all, she
argues African nations have been free for over sixty years.
Her answer is, foreign aid is another form of colonialism. it is a vicious cycle of dependency when African countries depend on foreign
aid from the western world.
Ms. Moyo utilizes the analogy that foreign aid is like an “addiction“ and African countries must wean themselves off of this “drug`.
The pernicious African governments are in collusion with the western world and this only hurts the African people.
The African dictators are not providing the health care, social services, infrastructure which is their responsibility.
Unfortunately, the occident, are so heavily involved in African economies there is a Eurocentric focus where the money is being
exported out of Africa instead of being utilized to develop African societies.
For example, 90% of Ethiopîa`s budget is from foreign aid. Ms. Moyo clearly loves the African people, she is a very courageous woman to
write this book.
Ms. Moyo says in the year 1970 only 10% of Africans lived on $1 dollar per day now she says 70% of Africans survive on only $1 dollar
per day.
She strongly believes that African governments are to blame for depending on the western world for foreign aid.
Ms. Moyo says there is no incentive for African governments to develop their countries economies when they basically steal the
foreign aid for themselves.
It is so refreshing that Ms. Moyo is providing her perspective because she is an African woman speak about the African economics and
politics. Ms. Moyo she actually has the real life experience and the expertise to understand this issue of African politics and economics
better than they can.
Ms. Moyo says in book“Dead Aid`,` that people should question where their money is going when they send their money to non-profit
charities.
She believes that foreign aid is actually hurting African economies and she believes the distribution of the billions of dollars are not
reaching Africans.
Ms. Moyo`s perspective is foreign aid from governments should be cut off from the African continent within ten years.
Some people may believe that Ms. Moyo’s ideologies are drastic, but she is serious. Ms, Moyo is not against all NGOs because she believes
there are African people suffering that require humanitarian assistance. Ms. Moyo she is questioning the distribution of the foreign aid.
Her book `Dead Aid`, challenges the corrupt African governments, the western world, and Hollywood celebrities.
Ms. Moyo argues that the western governments, African dictators, pop stars such all contribute to creating a culture of corruption and
dependency in Africa economies.
She criticizes pop stars such as Madonna, Bono, and Bob Geldof are not altruistic they want to position themselves as
“white saviours.“ The danger is these “white saviours” actually have a lot of influence in relation to policies that affect the lives of
African people. Ms. Moyo she believes western celebrities are a part of the problem not the solution to the African continent.
She says foreign pop stars only focus on the negative aspects of African nations and not the positives.
Ms. Moyo also focuses her argument on the culture of “othering“ and neo colonialism that exists when foreign governments and
celebrities discuss the African continent.
The Africa continent is not a monolithic group, it consists of over fifty-three independent countries.
For instance, Nigeria is one of the world`s largest oil exporters and South Africa is the most richest country on the African continent.
Ms. Moyo says pop stars treat the African continent as a fetish to promote themselves and their
own agenda. Ms. Moyo she is correct, foreign pop stars have no right to discuss African foreign aid when they are not education to
understand the nuances of economics.
According to Ms. Moyo ,she says African governments should look to new markets in China and India to develop their countries
economies.
The USA Blasts Canada 5-3 In The Men’s Hockey Event At The Winter Olympics.
I am not a hockey fan, but I am stunned that the American hockey team beat Canada. Wow! The Americans blasted Canada 5-3 and now Canada is in serious trouble. Canada squeezed past Switzerland 3-2 in their last game. Canada can still do well in the Winter Olympics. The Canadian men’s hockey team just has to try a little bit harder and be more consistent.
Can Kerry Washington Reach The A List In Hollywood?
A question I have often thought about is, when will is the next generation of black actresses emerge in Hollywood?
Maybe, the time has finally arrived and young black actresses are
succeeding in Hollywood?
Gabourey Sidibe was nominated for best actress for her performance in the incendiary film “Precious Based On The Novel Push By Sapphire.”
I am pleased Gabourey Sidibe was nominated for an Oscar. I must admit, I wasn’t impressed that Gabourey’s character was a negative depiction of black femininity.
I am conflicted about Gabourey’s performance in Lee Daniel’s film because of all the negative stereotypes of black women in that film.
Kerry Washington is a representation of black womanhood, the beautiful black woman she tends be less visible in society. For example, one reader of my blog,
she says society is more accepting of the oveweight black women such as Oprah, MoN’ique, Gabourey Sidibe, and Queen Latifah. I agree with the reader’s analysis.
I believe Oprah, MoNique, Gabourey Sidibe, and Queen Latifah are all incredible actresses with talent.
Kerry Washington presents a different side of black female sexuality she is the sultry, feminine, and a sophisticated black woman.
Kerry Washington is an intelligent, hardworking and gorgeous woman!
I remember I watching the Toronto Film Festival press conference for “The Last King of Scotland”, I was mesmerized by Kerry Washington’s beauty. Kerry
Washington is hot! Kerry is stunning she is more beautiful than Halle Berry, that’s just my personal opinion.
I think Zoe Saldana and Kerry Washington have the potential to become A list black actresses. Zoe Saldana is almost A list, she was in two blockbuster mainstream films “Avatar” & “Star Trek.”
I have paid close attention to Kerry Washington in the past few years and I am hoping this year she can have her breakthrough. Kerry’s career tends to be hit or miss so far. Kerry incredible body of work includes “Save The Last Dance”, “Ray”, “The Dead Girl”, and “The Last King Of Scotland.” The quandary is, Kerry tends to get supporting roles.
I am happy to announce, that Kerry has two films at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival which are receiving a lot of positive buzz. The first film, is Columbian director Rodrigo Garcia’s drama “Mother & Child.” Naomi Watts, Annette Benning, and Kerry Washington are the female leads in this film. Mother & Child deals with adoption & motherhood. “Mother & Child” will be released later this year.
The second film “Night Catches Us,” stars Kerry and Anthony Mackie. “Night Catches Us”, is a period piece set in Philadelphia in the year 1976. The Black Panther Movement has ended and the city is in turmoil. Kerry’s character she is a young teacher she is a woman grieving the death of her husband. Anthony Mackie’s character is Kerry’s former flame he returns to Philadelphia and notices the city has changed. I am excited about “Night Catches Us”, this movie looks like it may be special.

Johnny Weir Was Robbed Because The Figure Skating Judges Are Homophobes!
Johnny Weir of the United States skated an excellent clean skate during the long program yet he ended up in sixth place. NBC figure skating analyst and former Olympic champion Scott Hamilton said this was best skate of Johnny Weir’s career.
However, the homophobic judges have their own anti gay agenda. How is this fair? Weir’s free skate was artistic, he has flair, the jumps, spins, and the transition steps. Meanwhile, the judges favour the arrogant Canadian figure skater Patrick Chan, even though Chan fell on his ass during his free skate. How could the judge’s place Chan ahead of Weir?
Once again, the judges are punishing Johnny Weir because he is a confident gay man. The homophobic judges refuse to reward Johnny Weir because this would mean they are promoting “homosexuality” in the eyes of these anti gay people! Johnny can’t say that the judges are homophobes but I am saying it right here and right now!
Weir’s free skate was superior to Stephane Lambiel of Switerland yet Lambiel ended up in fourth place. Figure skating is a subjective sport, this means the prejudices and biases of the judges are reflected in their decisions.
I am sick of the media ignoring the fact homophobia is rampant in men’s figure skating. Weir is openly gay, very outspoken, and a very talented skater.
There are anxieties in society about effeminate gay men performing in sports but Johnny is a very important character. Lesbian feminist Judith Butler wrote that gender is performative in her groundbreaking books “Gender Trouble” and “Bodies That Matter”. Butler argues that gender is socially constructed and society punishes people who do not conform to compulsory heterosexuality. Weir blurs the lines between the masculine and the feminine in his skating.
Johnny is very intelligent, he is very popular with figure skating fans. Johnny Weir deserved higher than sixth place. I believe Weir deserved fourth place. I am not sure Weir could of won the Bronze Medal because of the points gap between him and the top three skaters. I believe Weir deserved higher than sixth place.
Evan Lysacek Is The Olympic Champion He Wins The Gold Medal In Men’s Figure Skating!!!
I am so happy for Evan Lysacek of the United States he won the gold medal in men’s figure skating tonight! Evgeni Plushenko of Russia won the silver medal but he deserved bronze. Plushenko’s performance was very uninspiring to watch. Plushenko is just a jumping machine he has no transition steps, his spins are terrible, and his footwork is garbage. However, the judges cheated for Plushenko he deserved to be in third or fourth place.
Plushenko’s routine was terrible his jumps were shaky, he also looked extremely very nervous during his free skate. Plushenko was lucky that the judges gave him a silver medal due to his reputation.
Diasuke Takahashi of Japan wins the bronze medal but he deserved the silver medal he was robbed! Takahashi is the first Japanese man to win an Olympic medal in men’s figure skating. Lysacek’s victory proves that artistry is very important he has the spins, the jumps, and the transition steps.
