Maria Sharapova Upset In The First Round Of The Australian Open.
Maria Kirilenko of Russia, defeated her good friend Maria Sharapova of Russia 7-6 3-6 6-4 in three hours and twenty-two minutes. The match was sloppy, filled with unforced errors.
Maria needs to decide, is she a tennis player or a supermodel?
Sharapova is the three-time grand slam singles champion she is more than just a pretty face.
Maria has a lot of talent but she needs to add to her game. Maria’s volleys are weak and her movement is her weakness.
I am not suggesting Maria isn’t fit because she is. However, I am suggesting that Maria needs to find a way to become more agile on the court.
According to media reports, Sharapova’s $70 million dollar Nike contract is the most lucrative sports endorsement for a female athlete.
Maria played an exhibition before the Australian Open and that just wasn’t smart.Maria need real tennis matches to gain confidence.
Maria is just too good a player to lose to someone like the 58th ranked Kirilenko.
Sharapova had 11 double faults and seventy-two unforced errors. I don’t understand why Maria did not play a warm up event before the Australian Open?
Maria hasn’t competed on the WTA Tour since October 2009. Maria is now ranked number fourteen in the world she is better than that. Maria should be in the top five on the WTA Tour.
Maria is too talented to be wasting her abilities.
Where is Maria’s dedication? Where is Maria’s consistency? Where is Maria’s serve? Maria’s serve is still a liability.
If Maria Sharapova wants to return to the top of women’s tennis she must become more disciplined and focused.

A very early exit, but I never reckoned Sharapova had a serious chance at the title. Women’s tennis has been ruled by inconsistent players in recent years, which is why I’m glad to see Henin and Clijsters back. My money is on Venus Williams to retain her title this year, but many won’t be joining me! http://cli.gs/RtBWQj
Hello Richard, actually Venus older sister Serena is the current Australian Open women’s champion. I do agree that now that the Belgians Clijsters and Henin are back women’s tennis will finally have more consistency. I feel the Russian women Safina, Kuznetsova, Dementieva are solid players but they just don’t have the consistency to be the best.
More on this, have a look 😉

I would like to suggest that Mary Carrillo and Pat McEnroe be removed from tennis announcing. Both are no-nothing tennis announcers who have never accomplished anything on the court. They have a propensity to denegrade the Williams sisters. Just last night, they couldn’t wait to trash Serena again about the US OPEN. Some of their subtle racist remarks are disgusting and inappropriate. They “quietly” suggest that our champions are not Americans like “THE AMERICAN, Oudin. This is so outrageous!!! Serve them out!!
Priscilla the racism of Carllio and Patrick McEnroe is really annoying and disturbing.
The Williams Sisters are the best female tennis players of their generation but they are not white. In Carillo and Patrick McEnroe’s racist eyes Venus and Serena are not “real Americans.” I think it very sad in the USA that the Williams Sisters are not respected for their incredible contributions to womens’ tennis. Venus and Serena made women’s tennis popular and move beyond the country club elite audience.
Melanie Oudin LOST in the first round this girl is a lightweight.

Carillo is on a damn roll this time! I am going to have to listen without volume this year.
I e-mailed Canadian tennis writer Tom Tebutt but I got a surprise! Tebutt writes for the Globe & Mail in Canada and ESPN.COM of course he is not going to bite the hand that feeds him!
