PROJECT BACKGROUND:
The1st Toronto launch of this program was held at Ryerson University with 15 Black youth who participated in this overnite educational retreat over three days of workshops, discussion groups, and group community outings. The program focuses on building youth self-esteem, as well as educating them about the importance of healthy relationships, safer sex, and drug and alcohol use. Adult mentors from the community assist in the delivery of 3MV by preparing the meals for the youth over the three days, and facilitating group discussions over these meals.
The first group in June 2009, participated in a graduation and award ceremony that was held about a month later at the Trey Anthony @ One Center downtown, with over 60 community members, youth and their friends and family.
