Venus Barely Wins First Round Match At The US OPEN

Venus wins US OPEN

Whenever I see Serena play I am confident she will get through the early rounds. Serena never disappoints, she blasted fellow American Alexia Glatch 6-4 6-1. It turns out Richard Williams was correct, Serena is the clearly superior tennis player. Serena has a better serve, forehand, and mental toughness.

Venus is a different story, she is the queen of inconsistency her forehand and serve are erratic. Once again Venus has to struggles against a lower ranked opponent.

Venus barely defeated the Russian Vera Dushevina 6-7 7-5 6-3. Venus was injured, I give her credit for pulling out the victory.

However, Venus has a very tough draw she could face the Belgian Kim Clijsters in the  fourth round. Clijsters destroyed Viktoriya Kutuzova 6-1 6-1

Remember tennis fans Clijsters also defeated Venus at the 2005 US OPEN in the quarterfinals in three sets.

Could this be Deja Vu? We will have to wait and see if  Venus “even” reaches the fourth round.

This match was difficult to watch. I was there and on the edge of my seat. I don’t know where she pulled that win from but she did it with all those double faults and massive errors in the first set. Dushevina was very good.

I think Venus has just been “off” since losing the Wimbledon finals. Dushevina definitely played an excellent match.
