Venus Williams Is An Underachiever & Mentally Weak

Venus out

Venus Williams continues to fold under the pressure she lost to her  sister Serena once again at Wimbledon.  I hate watching these Williams Sisters grand slam finals!!! Why didn’t Venus hit some slice or change the pace? Venus doesn’t believe in herself when she plays Serena. Serena has a 6-2 edge in grand slam finals. Venus is a great champion, but she is also an underachiever, she should of won more then seven slams.

Serena doesn’t care when she plays Venus she wants to win at all costs. Venus is different she seems confused, she actually cares and worries too much about Serena.

Venus serve deserted her in the final she just was off her game. Why didn’t Venus serve and volley? Why  didn’t Venus approach the net more often?

Venus needs to wake up and realize she’s not getting any younger this was her chance to match Billie Jean King at six Wimbledon singles titles.

Once again Venus loses to Serena and I fear this loss will once again destroy her self confidence.

Yes it is true Serena has a more consistent serve and forehand, but Venus just doesn’t believe in herself when she plays Serena.  I don’t see the fire in Venus when she plays Serena she is so passive she doesn’t believe in herself or her incredible talents.

I am disappointed in Venus and I fear she may never win another grand slam ever again. Venus is 29 years old she’s not getting any younger. I feel sorry for Venus because she doesn’t have the killer instinct when she plays Serena.

Serena is a better tennis player but I feel Venus has a mental block when she plays her sister.

Gee, I would really like to underachieve just like her! Seven grand slam singles titles. I’d be so ashamed of myself. orvillelloyddouglas, you are a keen analyst of racism in professional sport, but you are wrong here, and I think it’s because you’re looking at tennis through the eyes of a fan.

I’m a former junior player, who turned down Div. I intercollegiate tennis to concentrate on academics. I’m not certified, but I’ve done a lot of teaching to kids in recreation programs. Venus is a very dominant player, but she will never be able to match her sister, unless Serena is having an off day. Venus uses aggression and power to win points. She hits as hard as she can (really hard!), and is never shy about coming to the net, rare among today’s women players. Venus applies pressure until her opponents crack. But her game lacks subtlety and finesse, and therein lies the difference.

Serena is one of the all-time greats of any sport, because she is a shotmaker. This is the rarest ability in the game, 98% of the TOP players can’t claim this. Most of the time, the unlucky 98% have to hit the ball pretty much back to where it came from. Only when they get a weak shot from their opponent can they make a major change to the angle of the ball’s flight. Serena dictates the play in any point by constantly being to change where the ball lands. Her opponent is ALWAYS on the run. Most of all, like Steffi Graf, Andre Agassi, Evonne Goolagong or Monica Seles, Serena can hit deep-angled placement winners from anywhere on the court, EVEN BEHIND THE BASELINE.

She has one more key advantage, not often mentioned by the ‘Kommentator Klan’. Serena is a ‘spin artist’. Like Laver, Federer, Seles or Ivan Lendl (I used to love watching him send McEnroe into brainlock), she can hit
topspin or chop on both forehand and backhand, and can change spins AT WILL, EVEN UNDER PRESSURE.

Venus Williams is one of the best women’s tennis players, ever. But she is clearly over-matched against her sister, like the rest of us mortals. Now add in that Serena’s placement and disguise on her crushing first serve is also better than Venus’s…”Game, Set, Match, Serena”. If you want to nominate an underachiever from among the ‘sistas’, (and I don’t, nobody knows what either of them went through after their sister’s murder, and from the toll of repeated injuries) it would have to be Serena, who is clearly a better player than either Margaret Court or Steffi Graf. I am really disappointed that Serena hasn’t won the Grand Slam, she has the tools, and the killer instinct. I am convinced she wants to, knowing that would silence the critics forever, but I fear she may be running out of chances.

BTW, I saw your ‘tweet’ (silly name for the ultimate in automated distraction) about Serena vs. Andy. I saw Sharapova cuss out an Umpire (f-word) two years ago live on ESPN. NOTHING was said. ‘Nuff said? Finally, you’re much too kind to Mary Carillo. I would cheerfully burn her at the stake (“Have a nice daaay!”). I have to mute any Williams match when she is on the mike. Only when Venus or Serena are steamrolling their opponent, is there any pretense of objectivity. Okay, I think that was all six volumes, LOL!

If Serena was Venus’ lesbian lover, you would say that is adorable. Because the “venus” in the relationship was just be a loving, and generous lover.

How do we know that some closet politics isn’t going on in there case? We don’t, so I don’t think Venus should be labled as being mentally weak. Has this ever crossed your mind?
