The L Word Is An Amazing Show!
Today I bought the fourth season of lipstick lesbian show the L word on DVD! I love the L Word! I feel like I am learning more about the lesbian world. Of course, the lesbians on the L Word are glamorous, but this is television and not the real world. Also the L Word breaks stereotypes proving lesbians can be sexy, beautiful, thin, and attractive. The lesbians on the L Word are stylish , in incredible physical shape, and are also very attractive women.
Television is about fantasy and on the L Word just about all the lesbians on this show are feminine lesbians. I love Shane, she is the only butch lesbian on the show. The character Max he is a trans man, he is transitioning from female to male. I like Max’s storyline, the writers did a solid job exploring the discrimination trans people experience in society.
The story lines are great, the sex scenes are hot, and the cast are amazing actors. The L Word has been criticized by some bisexual and lesbian women of colour for being too Eurocentric. For instance, I don’t like the character Papi I feel she is a stereotype of Hispanic lesbians this character is too licentious and she comes across as a stereotype. Papi is an oversexed woman that just cares about sex she is not developed at all.
However, I do like the black lesbian character Tasha I think her character she is a very complex. I like the L Word because at least the show attempts to show the diversity in the lesbian community.
I hate Queer As Folk the USA version, I feel that show is racist against gay men of colour. At least on the L Word lesbians of colour are represented as characters with their own storylines. I don’t like QAF because the only time gay men of colour were presented on the program is during sex scenes. QAF stereotypes gay men of colour as just sexual objects for white male homosexual desire and this is such a disservice.
