Tamil Protest In Downtown Toronto Will It Accomplish Anything?

Last night in downtown Toronto hundreds of Tamil protesters blocked the Gardiner Expressway. The Gardiner is a major highway in downtown Toronto.  I just watched the news there were men, women, and even children at the protest. Some people say the Tamil community was wrong to bring young children to the protest.

A  civil war taking place  right now in Sri Lanka and obviously the protesters want to raise awareness to their cause. I have read comments on the internet and it seems the people of Toronto don’t care. I wonder is this a matter of race? If a civil war was taking place in a European country would Canadians be more sympathetic?
