Serena Wins 31st WTA Tour Title The Family Circle Cup!!!
Tennis goddess Serena Williams proves once again she is the most mentally tough player on the WTA Tour. Serena has won three consecutive WTA Tour titles in a row in India, Miami, and now Charleston. Serena has a 19-1 record this year on the WTA Tour. The key for Serena is to remain healthy I think Serena is really motivated by her success.
It is kind of hard to believe Serena’s victory over Russian Vera Zvonareva today at the Family Circle Cup is only her third WTA tour title on clay. The final result was never in doubt Serena is a winner she is an incredible champion and the best player of her generation on the WTA Tour. Serena has won all four grand slams she is better then Martina Hingis, Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova, Justine Henin, and Lindsay Davenport. When Serena plays at her highest level no other woman on the WTA tour can compete with her. Also this week Serena hit her biggest serve ever at 129 miles per hour.
Serena’s victory at the Family Circle Cup is her first clay court title since winning the 2002 French Open. Serena’s ranking will rise to number six in the new WTA rankings on Monday. Although the slow clay courts isn’t Serena’s favorite surface she proved this week she can win on clay. The victory will give Serena a lot of confidence heading into the European clay court events.
Serena fought very hard to win today she is such a great champion and a fighter. Serena never ever quits or gives up. Serena’s determination and desire to win is incredible. Vera Zvonareva pushed Serena to the limit but Serena prevailed 6-4 3-6 6-3. Serena had a solid week she won three tough three set matches including a great quarterfinal victory over world number four Maria Sharapova. It is obvious when Serena is healthy, motivated, and confident she is the best player on the WTA Tour. Serena is so fired up and serious now. Well done Serena!

You’ve pretty much covered it but I must add a little tidbit from the mouth of Martina Navratilova.
In a courtside interview with Shriver during the Sharapova match (or maybe Cornet, the weekend ran together for me) Martina was asked who the best grass court player of the last 10 years was. W/o hesitation (or irony) she said it should be Henin, went on about her various skills and professionalism (sound familiar? ) and then I believe she said something curt and prefunctory about Venus. Maybe it was more generous but I was so pissy at that point I barely registered what she was saying.
It dovetails with the points about the racism that you have made in your dealings w/ mainstream gay culture. I obviously don’t think those comments alone make Martina a racist, anymore than my support of Barack Obama make me an anti feminist but it does underline why so many of the lesbians of color I know don’t identify with gay causes/advocacy etc b/c of the animosity they’ve encountered.

@Kia, I will be honest with you I really have lost respect for Martina Navratilova. It is interesting you mention Pam Shriver she is also a classic hater of the Williams Sisters. I admire the Williams Sisters so much because they rise above the haters and let their tennis racket do the talking. Martina can say whatever she wants we know the Williams Sisters are great Wimbledon champion. I wrote a blog entry last year about the racism of some white female tennis experts in tennis. I was astounded that almost everyone agreed with that blog entry.
There is indeed racism in the gay community and I am not afraid to write about it on my blog. The truth is the white gays still have white skin privilege and access to white power. I think that’s why I created the blog to give the world a black gay voice.
I thought Martina was a woman that believed in human rights for all people I was wrong. I do believe that Martina is a covert racist because the comments she has made about the Williams Sisters is just disgusting. Justine Henin is not even close to being as good as Venus or Serena on grass. The Williams Sisters have dominated Wimbledon this decade winning Wimbledon six times and Henin has lost two major finals at Wimbledon.
