Rafael Nadal Is The New Lleyton Hewitt
Well the result was never in doubt today Novak Djokovic destroyed Rafael Nadal 6-3 6-2 in the semifinals of the Indian Wells Masters event. Nadal is just another Lletyon Hewitt he can run around the court like a chicken but he doesn’t have the big shots. Nadal is a complete mystery the guy is six foot one, he has huge muscles, and a strong body yet he gets no velocity on his serve. Nadal is a typical counterpuncher he waits for his opponent to make errors. The problem for Nadal is the best players have the big serves to win the easy free points and the power to blast him off the court.
Nadal simply spins his serve in and Djokovic made him pay with aggressive returns. The media have hyped Nadal to the maximum. I think Djokovic is the new player to consistently compete against Roger Federer. Nadal is still an awesome clay court player but I am not impressed with his dismal performances on the hard courts. Nadal simply fades whenever he plays a tough player on the faster surfaces. If Nadal doesn’t change his game in a few years he will end up just like Lleyton Hewitt falling into oblivion.

sorry don’t agree w/that at all. nadal beat songa and blake. blake is an incredible hardcourt player. unfortunately federer isn’t doing that much better than nadal and 2 lose so easily to mardy fish says it all. don’t get me wrong i am an obsessive fan of feds but i think the new kid on the block is djokovic and that is something i will have 2 get used 2. yuck, djokovic being my least favorite player, well him and andy murray. 2008 is playing out in djokovic’s favor so far, but i can only hope federer somehow comes back 2 at least break sampras’s record. that many weeks as #1 has 2 take a toll on the guy. by the way where is feds galpal, mirka? r players suddenly c ing vulnerabilities in feds game that they haven’t cn in the previous 215 weeks? did djokovic give confidence 2 all the other players that fed is beatable? so many questions so few answers. i guess as the season progresses and fed either gets it going or continues as is will we know 4 sure where its at.
@Shelia, James Blake is a complete joke he’s not a winner he’s a consistent loser. Blake has never won anything big on the ATP Tour the guy can’t even get past the quarterfinals of a grand slam. James Blake is a classic chronic underachiever a career quarterfinalist. Tsonga is a young up and coming player he hasn’t reached his potential yet. Tsonga also choked against Nadal. Nadal still struggled to win both matches. I just wasn’t impressed Nadal may get far in hard court events but he keeps on losing. Its not about whether you reach the semifinals the question is can Nadal win the big hardcourt events? The answer right now is no unless he has an easy draw or a break if the top players loses early. I just think on hardcourts Nadal isn’t maximizing his abilities enough. The guy is big and strong he needs to play a more offensive game. I think Roger will bounce back its only March. I heard Mirka wasn’t at the match today. I honestly believe Roger will comeback he always does.
We stayed up into the wee hours in South Africa to wath both semis. We are big Nadal fans but your words ring true about his game on the hardcourts, probably grass too hey.
Damn, when a man his size is serving 90mph to Djokovic one has to wonder. Was Uncle Tony wrong to make him a leftie? Are they working on him to hit the ball faster through his serve?
I think Djokovic gets to the return faster than Nadal, like Blake and Nalbandian does, and this shows Nadal to be vulnerable to return. Truth be told, he takes too much time to return. He need to get on the ball faster.
That said, I really hear you when you say he needs to develop his game. New coaches perhaps, dunno. Still I am sad. I like Nadal but don’t see him as the #2 anymore. Sadly too, I hardly see Federer as #1 in these opening months of 2008.
I came to your blog because of the Williams sistas post. Thank you for speaking truth. I am just amazed at the likes of King and Navratilova. They should know better!
Will be back to read here.
Peace and struggle,
Ridwan
any other player could lose 3 tournaments in a row and that would b it. but federer loses 3 tournaments in a row and he becomes this big loser who has never really had competition. djokovic is on a roll this season and will most likely continue, but when he starts losing tournaments will ub saying he 2 is a loser. i guess only the rest of 2008 will tell the story. i 4 1 would b happy cing federer @ least tie sampras. and by the way agassi, sampras and laver consider federer 1 of the all time greats. are they wrong too????
once again i would like 2 say something further about federer and his easy draws. i went thru the atp rankings and djokovic has not had difficult draws either. he lost 2 a #33 seed @ atp tour open 13 in 2nd rd. when he finally got a top 10 player, roddick (6) @ dubai he lost. the australian open he really had no competition until federer. querrey, hewitt and david ferrer are no competition 2 djokovic and pacific life he had no top 10 player except nadal. 2 say federer has had easy draws throughout his career is, in my opinion, absurd. anotherwards disqualify every match hes played because they have been easy draws is simply ridiculous. federer got andy murray at dubai and that was a tough first rd. federer has always respected top 10 players by saying once u play them then its anybodys match. he respects those other top 10 players as well as the rest of the field. in conclusion, if u want 2 compare djokovic, federer and nadal as far as draws, theyve all been pretty equal. what i do agree with is that the gap btwn djokovic, nadal & federer is definitely closing and there is not that much difference btwn #1 and #3. they are all excellent players and they should all b respected for their talents. my favorite happens 2b federer but i certainly will not take away the talent of nadal and djokovic .
but 2 say federer is only where he is because of easy draws is ridiculous. as i said, nadal and djokovic havent played that many top 10 players in the tournaments they have won either. what was djokovic’s excuse when he retired @ wimbledon in 2007, especially when it was nadal who had the tougher road getting there. what was djokovic’s excuse getting slaughtered in year ending shanghai masters. he didn’t win won match. so please lets not take away federers talent to exalt djokovic. they are the 3 top players in the world.
Great blog, reading it through RSS feed as well
