Senator Obama Sweeps Washington state, Louisiana, And Nebraska Primaries!
Senator Barack Obama definitely has some momentum tonight after he swept the democratic primaries in Washington state, Louisiana, and Nebraska. Senator Obama also slices Senator Hillary Clinton’s lead. Clinton leads 1,095 delegates to Obama’s 1,070. I think tonight’s win for Senator Obama is extremely important. In order for either Obama or Clinton to win the Democratic party nomination the magic number is 2, 025 delegates.
It is interesting that the media place so much emphasis on the fact Senator Obama won the “black vote” in Louisiana. A lot of African Americans live in Louisiana maybe they are just sick of the status quo? The subliminal racist message the media is sending is that blacks don’t place any thought into voting. I wonder would the mainstream press make this racist assumption about the white women that vote for Hillary Clinton? Black Americans realize that their votes during this election are critical and important. If you want change to occur you have to vote. Why doesn’t the press mention every time Hillary Clinton wins that she acquired the white female vote?
Every single time, Senator Obama wins the media make the racist assumption that blacks just vote for Obama because he’s black and that’s perfidious. Black Americans are a vital component to the political process. I disagree strongly with the ludicrous analysis of the mainstream media. Black voters are turning out in large numbers because they are tired of the Clintons they want change. Black American people are thinking critically about the issues and realize the Clintons are a lost cause.
Black voters are voting in large numbers because they want someone to win that actually cares about issues important to African Americans. The Clintons have never supported black people anyway they simply thought blacks would support them. The Clintons have learned the hard way when you underestimate a demographic group they will send you a clear message when they vote.
Toni Morrison the acclaimed writer made the infamous statement that Bill Clinton was “the first black president”. Now Toni Morrison is supporting Senator Obama! Powerful white people in America such as Ted Kennedy and his niece Caroline Kennedy are also endorsing Senator Obama. Former presidential candidate John Kerry he is endorsing Obama as well. It isn’t just black people supporting Senator Obama. The African American population simply isn’t large enough for Obama to acquire this much support. It is clear that Senator Obama is gaining support across various demographics.
The Clintons have underestimated the African American voters prior to the emergence of Senator Obama. It appears the Democratic party don’t mind black people in the back row or on the sidelines. However, once an African American emerges to become a serious threat the Clintons true colours and actions speaks volumes.
My perspective is I think it is inimical for the mainstream media to underestimate black voters. Of course, the media forget to mention plenty of whites are also voting for Senator Obama in Nebraska and Washington state.
If Clinton or Obama don’t win the Democratic party nomination by the time of the Denver convention unfortunately dirty politics will emerge.
I just learned there is something called a “super delegate”. The “super delegates” are basically a safety system in the Democratic party to maintain the status quo. The “super delegates” can vote at the Democratic party convention in Denver if either Obama or Clinton have not won the nomination by acquiring 2025 delegates by the summer. According to some media reports if neither Obama or Clinton win the party nomination by the convention then the “super delegates” will vote for Senator Hillary Clinton. Black voters should be contacting the powerful black American black democrats such as Maxine Waters ASAP. I wonder aren’t people sick of the status quo? Don’t people want real change? Also, African American voters should be paying attention to high profile blacks in the democratic party.

Very good post O! This is a very exciting time for us Obama supporters, but in the back of our minds is this superdelegate thing…we could have put in all this hard work, donated all this money, worked at the polls and caucuses, all for naught because of some back room deals that could put Hillary into the nomination because of the superdelegates…
If African Americans listened really closely, they would know that Hillary and Bill, although they have befriended the AA community, really don’t put our issues at the forefront. And especially during this race, when it came down to it, they only paid attention to AAs when they needed our vote…
I think we spend too much time letting the media make our decisions and we don’t listen when the candidates speak the words directly out of their mouths and pay attention to their actions…
MarvalusOne let me tell you, as a Canadian I am learning so much about the American political process. I find this election so exciting and interesting I am learning so much. I was shocked when I heard about this super delegate thing. I don’t believe super delegates should be allowed it is anti democratic. It seems to me the super delegates is basically a system to keep the status quo in check. Senator Obama really is going to have to keep on working hard because if this gets down to the convention the super delegates will support Clinton for sure.
Obama won Louisiana. That is bloody incredible. Obama is knocking people out and hopefully he will win it.
This is the first time I’ve read your blog and it’s very nice. I completely agree with your analysis of the media constant theory that black voters vote for Obama simply b/c he is black. The black vote has always been important and black voters are just as intelligent in choosing a candidate that will best represent their needs regardless if the candidate is black or white, latio or chinese. Of course there will always be that bias from some to support Obama just because. But I believe that the media plays down the intellect behind the voter.
I’m also Canadian and I’m also leaning a lot more this year about the US political process. Very Fascinating.
Hello Avenue Road thank you for visiting my blog! I agree the pernicious attitude of the press towards black voters is abhorrent. Black people use our intelligence in the decision making process in deciding the individuals we want to support. The Clintons have never supported black people and never done anything of importance for black voters. The Clintons haven’t done anything for black people so black voters have made their voices heard when they vote. Black American voters are using their political power and demonstrating they are a powerful voting bloc they should not be underestimated at all.
