I Miss Jamaica

large_flag_of_jamaica.gif

The last few days in Toronto have been a nightmare. The snow just keeps on falling, it is so cold here, I just can’t stand it. I wish I was back in Jamaica, sitting on the veranda, sipping orange juice or eating bun & cheese. I can just imagine watching the palm trees sway in the distance.I can almost feel the  cool sea breeze gently caressing my face. Now this would be paradise. I can almost touch the white sand beaches of Negril and swim in the blue sea.

Now I don’t mean this the way it may come across. But, naturally, given your post, of course my question is…

    Why aren’t you in Jamaica?

Hi Baby Please, I was in Jamaica two weeks ago. Due to commitments I have in Canada I am unable to visit Jamaica again for a while. I really do want to go back and visit maybe this summer or next year.

Jamaica is beautiful (well that is how I remember it when I went back there). Do you think you would go back and live there full-time?

Hi Aulelia, I visited Montego Bay, beautiful tourist city. I think Jamaica is beautiful. I went to visit relatives a few weeks go in the city of Lucea which is in the same parish of Hanover in the countryside. I also went to Negril beach. I couldn’t live in Jamaica full time for a couple of reasons. Jamaica is too religious, homosexuality is illegal there. I wonder how gay Jamaican people live there? I wonder how do they meet? I was thinking about that when I was there. It must be really hard to be gay there.

the anti-homosexual subtext must make it incredibly hard for gay people to live there. may i ask, is it anti-lesbian as well or just anti-male gay? (i am sure i have jumbled up words there)

I didn’t know homosexuality was illegal there, Orville. I know it’s frowned upon (times 10 million) but I didn’t know it was actually ILLEGAL.

Duh; I totally forgot about that when I asked you the question. Of course you don’t want to live there. Oops. LOL.

Theblackactor, your question was fine don’t worry about it. Also got to mention abortion is also illegal in Jamaica right now. When I visited Jamaica over two weeks ago, there was a big debate about the abortion issue. Jamaica, is actually a conservative pious country, but there is so much hypocrisy. For instance, heterosexuality is depicted as glamorous in the Jamaican media yet discussing sexuality the social taboo is breaking down a bit.

Aulelia, my perspective is lesbians have to be very careful in Jamaica because they are women. There have been stories in the Jamaican media about lesbians encountering violence. Some lesbians are raped by straight men in Jamaica because they believe they can “turn” a lesbian straight. However, I think lesbianism isn’t considered as much a threat as male homosexuality.
