Why Does Society Ignore The Racism Of The White Gays?

barack-obama-060607.jpgisaiahwashington_lrg.jpg255038queen-latifah-posters.jpgjennifer-hudson-promo-pictures.jpg

What do Barack Obama, Isaiah Washington, Queen Latifah, and Jennifer Hudson all have in common? Obama, Washington, Latifah, and Hudson, are all black public figures that have been unfairly targeted by the pernicious group known as the “white gay mafia” within the past year.

The white gay mafia is not one person, it is an organized syndicate of North American media outlets such as white gay owned newspapers, magazines, celebrities, and white gay political organizations. It is a chilling reminder and warning to black gays and straights about the “influence”, “racism”, and “hypocrisy” of the white gay mafia. Is there homophobia in the black community yes it does exist. Is there racism in the white gay community the answer is a resounding yes and it is very real and ugly.

The white gay mafia doesn’t understand that some black people do not view them as a “minority”. Some blacks just see the “white gays” as an alternative version of the mainstream white society

. Some white gays have claimed they have “similarities” to blacks because they also encounter discrimination. It is true some white gays encounter discrimination due to their sexual orientation.

However, in society you simply cannot compare the struggles of the white gay community to that of the black race. Blacks and other people of colour encounter more discrimination given the fact white gays still have their “whiteness”.

White gays are still a part of the white majority they have white skin privilege.White homosexuals also have the support of the liberal white media that can also be anti black.

The white gay mafia have been shrewd in crafting their new victim status card. If you criticize a white gay person these days you will automatically be branded a “homophobe”. Are white gays free from criticism? Sure seems like it.

In society, people are judged based on appearance first, people see race not sexual orientation. People do not “see” sexual orientation right away anyway. People will discriminate against a black person first before they go after a white homosexual. White gays can travel through the mainstream unscathed compared to people of colour.

Yet you never read in print, listen to news broadcasts, on the radio or television, about white gay racism. The mainstream North American media has a hunger and a penchant for trying to “depict” “all” blacks as “homophobes”. Yet will the mainstream media publish articles about the white gay racists?

Of course not because whites control the mainstream media. White gays and straights are the top editors, the managing editors, producers, editor in chiefs, in the mainstream press. You will also notice the lens will be of course from a Eurocentric perspective.

Obama is the latest “victim” in the strategy of the ruthless yet powerful white gay mafia syndicate network in North America. The white gay mafia should not be underestimated, they destroyed Isaiah Washington’s career. The white gay mafia are “angry” at Obama for inviting controversial gospel singer Donnie McClurkin to a gospel concert in South Carolina.

The mainstream North American media have been “waiting” for their opportunity to “pounce” because they don’t like Obama’s “growing” influence in American politics. Anything the mainstream and gay mafia can find to attack Obama they will and it looks like they have found their “scapegoat”.

I am glad Obama stood his ground and he did not remove McClurkin from the event because we live in a democracy, white gays have no say over the black community that’s for sure. If Obama didn’t stand his ground he would lose a lot of respect from the black community and that’s a fact. The white gay mafia does not dictate the black community and they need to get with the program. Although McClurkin has strong views on the issue of homosexuality, McClurkin is no threat he has no power.

One mistake Obama made is why did he invite white gay pastor Andy Sidden to an all black event? Does this make sense? What the hell does Sidden have to do with the black community? Even Obama has fallen victim to the consistent stereotype that all gays are white people. Obama had an opportunity to reach out to black gay activists and bridge the miscommunication between the omnipotent white gay mafia and the black community. Once again black gays and lesbians were displaced. Once again white gays hijack a situation and event that has nothing to do with them. Where were the black gay activists?

Obama should of had black gay activists present given the fact the gospel concert was a black event. Donnie McClurkin has stated he believes homosexuality is a choice. Isn’t McClurkin entitled to his own opinion? Free speech exists for a reason, everyone is not going to agree with each other’s opinion but we are all entitled to our own views. Although I don’t agree with McClurkin on that statement, he most certainly doesn’t have the power as Reverend Fred Phelps. Phelps is a white male heterosexual minister that is extremely homophobic to the extreme. Reverend Phelps is well known for showing up at funerals and spewing his disgusting homophobic vitriol. Yet does the mainstream media cover Phelps often? Of course not.

McClurkin isn’t advocating violence against gays and Phelps does. Next you have the hypocritical closeted white gay bigot Ted Haggard. Does anyone remember Ted Haggard? Haggard is the powerful white male minister and he was known for his anti gay sermons. Haggard was the leader of over thirty million white evangelical Christians in the United States. Haggard also was a member of the Republican party, he had considerable social and political power. Last year, Haggard was caught in a sex scandal because he solicited the services of a male prostitute. Again, why didn’t the white gay mafia protest Haggard’s church? Why didn’t the white gay mafia go after the Republican party?

The white gay mafia’s strategy is to attack black public figures because they are cognizant of the fact blacks have less social, economic, and political power then the white Republican party. The white gay mafia’s current mission is not only to undermine black public figures but attempt to “destroy” them. Its unfortunate that the white gay mafia cannot be honest.

Why can’t they be honest and just say they hate blacks? I guess they cannot be real for a few minutes. The mainstream white North American media doesn’t mind because there are also racist editors, producers, story editors, that work behind the scenes at various North American media outlets. Notice the mainstream media will never publish articles about the “real motivation” of the white gay mafia? It is well known within the gay community that there is indeed a very strong racist element that grows like a cancer.

Where are the articles about anti black news organizations such as the Dallas Voice and the Washington Blade? The Dallas Voice has been on a mission to “attack” black entertainers such as Jennifer Hudson and Queen Latifah. Yet will the Dallas Voice ever publish articles about their anti black racism? Of course not. The Washington Blade and Dallas Voice in the past year have attempted to misconstrue statements Queen Latifah and Jennifer Hudson have made to make them “appear” homophobic.

In the April 13th 2007 issue of the Washington Blade, Kevin Naff defended the racist radio jock Don Imus. Naff’s insensitive racist and sexist comments was not surprising but typical of white gay America. Why should black people support white gays when they spread their own racism and bigotry against blacks?

Naff has no right to patronize black people with his racist and paternalistic comments. Imus comments were both racist and sexist and a big deal. I am proud of the African American community for standing up and letting racist bigots like Don Imus know he will be punished for his prejudice. Imus may be back on the air but Imus also was humiliated in the process. There is an incredible amount of racism and sexism against black women and we will not just sit by and allow racists like Imus or Kevin Naff to get away with their bigotry. Imus had no right to call the Rutgers female basketball team “Nappy Headed Hoes”.

Would Kevin Naff be so quick to defend Imus if Imus made a remark the white gay community considered homophobic? Some white gays like Kevin Naff are perhaps some of the most dangerous people blacks will encounter. On the surface Naff appears to be politically correct and harmless.

Yet beneath the surface Kevin Naff is a white gay racist and he has a platform to spread his anti black bigotry in the the public sphere. Just because a white person is gay doesn’t mean that white homosexual cannot be a racist. Washington DC has a very large black population and the black race should be paying close attention to Kevin Naff’s blatant racist and misogynist comments. It is just so paternalistic, hypocritical, and racist for white gay newspapers like the Washington Blade to preach to blacks about “tolerance” and yet they spread racism in print.

It is also unfortunate that some black gay people have been “silent” about the obvious attempts by the white gay mafia to undermine black public figures. My perspective is,,if we are silent then we are a part of the problem. I believe black gays should speak out against this hypocrisy and bigotry of the white gay community. Some black gays are a bit naive to actually think the protests against Obama are just about “advancing” gay rights. The only concern the white gay mafia have are their own. The powerful white gay mafia are actually “fighting” for “white” gays rights only. I disagree strongly with the white gay mafia because I know how they operate. I can discern that their own focus is on themselves.

The white gay mafia in North America are a very powerful section of the North American gay community. For instance, Jann Wenner is a white gay man he owns Rolling Stone magazine and US Magazine. Wenner also allowed an article on the racist white gay comedian Charles Knipp also known as “Shirley Q Liquor” to be published in Rolling Stone magazine this year. Knipp’s routine involves performing in blackface, and making racist and sexist disgusting jokes about black women and the black community.

Now why would Rolling Stone profile Knipp? Knipp also pointed out in the Rolling Stone article that he also conducts “private performances” for white people that want to laugh at anti black jokes in “private”. Knipp is a popular entertainer in the white American gay club circuit, he performs at numerous white gay clubs and bars across North America. Notice the mainstream North America media are silent about Knipp’s and his racism.

The white gay mafia in North America owns newspapers, magazines, they are also executives at various media mainstream and gay media outlets. When I utilize the word “white gay mafia” I am not discussing “individual constructs”. I am focusing on “institutional and infrastructure constructions”. The white gay mafia is a network that has increasing power and visibility in North America. I have also noticed that the North American mainstream media “always” sides with the white gay community over blacks.

I have also noticed not one mainstream or white gay newspaper has the “nerve” or should I say an ounce of “dignity” to publish an article about the obvious “anti black racism” of the white gay mafia in North America.

Does anyone recall the recent murder trial for Michael Sandy? Ooops you most likely didn’t hear much about Michael Sandy trial if you live outside the New York City area. The Michael Sandy murder trial is not news in the mainstream American media outlets because Sandy was a black gay man.

Well here is a reminder. About a year ago in October 2006 Michael Sandy a young African American gay man was brutally attacked and murdered by four young white men. Sandy was lured online for a sexual encounter at Plumb Beach in Brooklyn. Sandy did not know he was going to be ambushed by four young white men. The white male attackers brutally and viciously beat Sandy, he ran for his life, got hit by a car, and died five days later. Did any of the mainstream or white gay media outlets point out that perhaps Sandy’s attackers didn’t just go after him because he was “gay” but also because he was “black”? Of course not. There is an intersection of race, gender, and sexuality in the Michael Sandy murder that the mainstream of course ignored.

The entrenched racism and homophobia against young black gay men is no concern of the white gay mafia. The only focus of these nefarious organizations is about “white gay rights”. Could you imagine if the reverse was true? It would be so explosive. The hypocritical and racist mainstream North American media and the white gay mafia would be hearing “explosions” and have a field day. Yet when a young black gay man is murdered by four whites its “not” newsworthy.

Was Michael Sandy a main topic on CNN, NBC, ABC, Fox News, CBS, or Advocate, or the mainstream USA newspapers? Of course not. Did the North American media point out the fact Sandy was specifically targeted by four young white men? Of course not. Notice GLAAD, HRC, and the rest of the white gay American community have not been very “vocal” about the increasing violence and abuse against black gays and lesbians.

The framework and focus of GLAAD, HRC, and other white gay organizations are from a Eurocentric lens. Let me be blunt, these white gay organizations need to place the word “white” before they discuss “gay rights”. Make no mistake, just because GLAAD and HRC may have a couple of token black gays on their payroll, does not mean they aren’t racist anti black organizations.

So why can’t GLAAD and HRC just be honest? Can GLAAD and HRC be real for five minutes? These white gay organizations needs to be real, black people we need to be cognizant of these racist anti black groups.

The latest controversy that has the white gay mafia upset is that Obama did not “remove” controversial African American gospel singer Donnie McClurkin at a gospel concert. What social or political power does McClurkin have? Ask yourself this question would the white gays “protest” Hillary Clinton? Of course not. Obviously the white gay community “doesn’t get it” Obama certainly isn’t courting white gays for his vote so why should he attend to their “concerns”? Obama is no homophobe he has spoken out against homophobia.

However, Obama is also no fool either, if black people see Obama “bend” to the concerns of the white gay community he can kiss the black American vote goodbye. More and more black people are paying attention to the increasing “power” of the white gay mafia but also to their obvious bigotry against black people.

Another question has to be asked , since when are white gay people the “decision makers” for the black race? Who do these white people think they are? Why don’t the white gays go jump in a lake? When will the white gay mafia be honest about their own racist anti black prejudices? Obama is caught between a rock in a hard place since he is in second place behind Hillary Clinton ahead of John Edwards. Obama has to attempt to “appeal” to different demographics. The white gay organizations are upset at Obama because of McClurkin’s presence. However, some black people gay and straight are irritated and annoyed at the hypocrisy of not only the mainstream North American media but also the white gay community.

However, there has been a pattern in the past year where the powerful white gay organizations have “targeted” black public figures crying and belly aching over alleged homophobia. Isaiah Washington lost his job on ABC Grey’s Anatomy because he got angry on the job and uttered a gay slur. Even though everyone knows on Hollywood sets arguments take place all the time. Again, where was the white gay mafia when Rosie O Donnell uttered a very racist anti Asian remark when she was an employee of ABC on live television for the show “The View”? Is GLAAD and HRC against all forms of discrimination or not? How can we take GLAAD and HRC seriously? Where was GLAAD or HRC? Oops I forgot, Rosie is a rich white lesbian so when Rosie makes inappropriate racist remarks against Asian Americans on television its quite alright its all gravy.

Black people gay and straight need to be cognizant that” beneath the surface” of these “homophobia allegations” against African American public figures I believe is a subversive element of racism. Basically the white gay mafia have an agenda and their agenda is to “target” any black figure they believe has “social” or “political” power that affects their “agenda.” The fact remains black people in North America do not have the social, economic, and political power of the homophobic white gay democrats and republicans.

The white mafia wants to present the “frame” and the “lens” to paint the entire black race as “anti gay.” Yet what about white gays being anti black? Where are the articles about white gays racism and bigotry? Why is there this racist double standard? Are white gays free from criticism? It definitely sure seems like it. I have not read one single news article that has exposed the virulent hypocrisy and anti black racism by the white gay North American community.

Does anyone really honestly believe that GLAAD or HRC or any of the other powerful white gay organizations give a crap about gay people of colour rights? Of course not. Do you really honestly think the white gay community is just “going” after Obama just because McClurkin was present at a black only event? Please, dear readers utilize your intelligence ,the white gay community in the United States are run by extremely powerful and wealthy white gay men and women.

As a young black gay man, I know how some white gays operate they view black people as “inferior” to whites. White gays ignore the fact in North American society they still have social and political power with white skin privilege and the “currency” of whiteness. White gay men even have more social power in North America given the fact they have their ” whiteness” but also “gender” as a “cultural signifier” that is linked to white male cultural domination.

Lets cut to the facts here, white gays aren’t going to vote for Obama they are going to vote for other whites such as Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, or the white male Republicans. I believe part of the “hostility” the white gay power organizations have against Senator Obama is because they don’t want a black man to win. Another reason, is the white gay elite want to use their considerable influence and play the victim card game. The white gay mafia want to reduce Senator Obama’s influence.

Even though, Hillary Clinton is basically a “lock” to win the Democratic Party Nomination white gays still “fear” Senator Obama because he has a strong hold on second place. White gays also “fear” the rising power of the African American community in American politics.

Where were the white gays when the termagant author Ann Coulter called John Edwards a gay slur? Did the gay mafia protest her? Of course not. Coulter is allowed to spread her bigotry in the mainstream print, radio, and television networks. Coulter gets off easy by the mainstream and white gay media because she’s a white heterosexual female. Coulter is considered harmless due to her gender and the fact the media view her as attractive. The message is if a pretty white woman is a racist homophobic bigot she has a free pass to spread her pernicious prejudices.  White females aren’t viewed as “threats”. White women can spew their racism and everyone remains silent and simply ignores their bigotry.

The media and white gays don’t take Coulter seriously. Why didn’t the white gay community in America apply “relentless” pressure against the Republican party? Why aren’t the white gay organizations also applying “constant” pressure against the Republican Party for Senator Larry Craig’s sex scandal?

Craig has voted against gay rights. Craig was also caught by an undercover male police officer in an airport washroom making signals for a homosexual encounter. Black people gay and straight should be paying careful attention to the patterns of the white gay mafia do not think for a second that these people do not have an anti black agenda because they do.

Hello Nita thanks for your kind words. I think this is one of the reasons I started my blog in the first place because I wanted my own voice to be heard. I don’t conform to what the gay mafia has to say. The gay mafia does not speak for me. I also was tired of “whiteness” always being the center of “gayness”. You should go to some gay blogs and read the incredible racist comments against black people its not surprising but it is very real and pernicious.

Interesting commentary and I think you are right — attention does need to be paid to racism among white gay folks and perhaps their dominance in gay media. Being in Dallas, I read the interview in the Dallas voice you cite with QL and it was pretty tough, but the focus was on her closeted status, not racism. Last week the Voice went after Paris Hilton just as strongly and for the same reason. Obviously she is the whitest of the white, so your racism accusation based on the QL interview doesn’t hold much water.

I don’t know of any specifics about Jennifer Hudson, except my own viewpoint. When a star, white or black, enjoys great success in the gay community and happily rakes in the benefits, it is pretty stinky to learn that they hold homophobic attitudes, often in the black community, as a result of fundamentalist church going. I think they are absolutely fair game to have that brutally exposed — black or white.

Which brings us to Obama. I’m withholding final personal judgment but at the very least his dealings with McClurkin were poorly handled and stunk of Obama’s insincerity and lack of skill. I strongly suspect there is far more to it than that, having to do with Obama’s deep personal attitudes, but of course I have no proof. He lost my support as the nominee because of the “smoke”. I do agree with you totally and completely that he should have had a black gay activist minister on the program, not the weak sister white man he enlisted.

Having read some of the other content on your blog, even as a adult life-time committed activist for civil rights going back to 1964, you seem to be strongly on the hunt for racism and I’m not convinced that you are truly finding it everywhere you look. . .

but goodness knows racism IS alive and sick in this country and must be confronted and healed. The same is true of homophobia and I very much disagree with your point that all white gays suffer less discrimination than all blacks. If you truly believe that, then you need to walk in the shoes of an obviously and naturally effeminate gay man for a few weeks. As a masculine and middle class gay man myself, I would agree that I have never faced discrimination like any black man in America, but I have friends who do not “pass” as hetero so easily and what they have to deal with is for sure a match (or worse) than what my black friends face today — and perhaps equals what blacks faced in the 60’s.

Thus the fear and condemnation that is preached in so many black churches ignites in the white gay community some pretty harsh emotions. It is understandable and regrettable but it won’t change until somehow some gay awareness breaks through into the black churches.

That alone, of course will not heal racism among white gays. Some of them are just insecure enough to need somebody else to down. And some are just plain haters.

I personally condemn that and my remarks here are meant to be constructive and lead to greater understanding and dialogue for healing for all.

The Dallas Voice has a history of racism against African American entertainers. I disagree that the articles about Queen Latifah was just about her closeted status. The offensive tone of the Dallas Voice is abhorrent. The racist anti black agenda of the Dallas Voice is to use the boogie man called “homophobia” to marginalize black entertainers that don’t subscribe to their agenda.

Dreamgirls is based on the black success story of the 1960s black girl group The Supremes. If there were no Surpremes there would be no Dreamgirls . The white gay producers behind the stage play for Dreamgirls basically appropriated and profited off of African American culture. The white gay producers copied The Supremes story, changed a few facts, and ripped off black culture. The fact remains the essence of Dreamgirls is the Supremes which was a black creation due to hard work by Diana Ross, Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson, Berry Gordy, the songwriters, and Motown. The Supremes are a part of black entertainment history and black culture.

So I take offense to your statement about Jennifer Hudson having to give back to the white gay community. Jennifer Hudson owes the white gay community nothing she beat out over 800 other young women for the lead role. She earned her fame and glory. Also, many black people supported the movie “Dreamgirls” because they know the story of “The Supremes”.

What have white gays done anyway except attempt to marginalize black people? Senator Obama has gone where no black politician has gone before he is not just getting the black vote he’s getting the white mainstream vote as well. The reason the white gay mafia are against Senator Obama is because they have their own racist anti black prejudices they don’t want a black man to win.

You stereotype black churches as being homophobic and yet you act as though homophobia doesn’t exist in white churches and white culture. White people are the ones creating the anti gay laws in North America not blacks. White men are the ones with the social, gender, economic, and political power in the United States. Yes, there is homophobia in some black churches I will agree to this. However, you casually ignore the power of racist white Christian bigots such as Ted Haggard. Haggard was the leader of a powerful church in Colorado he had over 30 million white American followers. Haggard also had the support of the white republican party and he is also a white male. One of the core support groups for the Republican party are White Evangelical Christians.

You also ignore the fact white gays are a part of the white American majority they have white skin privilege you have ignored this important fact. Whiteness is a social signifier in the United States of status and power. White gay men have even more social power in the United States due to their race and gender.

I am appalled at the male gay agenda who want marriage and children, but at the same time continually say, they are born that way. If you are born that way, then that’s a valid argument. It does not give you the right to rent women’s wombs (surrogate mothers) and create children where none would have existed into a family structure that would not exist naturally. This is harmful to women and children and I hope more gay women come to see this. I also have met a few white gay males who are bigots when it comes to black people’s perspectives. I am tired of it and I’m glad someone brought attention to it.

I have heard it myself from white heterosexual males how racist white gay males are, sadly the evidence has been overwhelmingly true. The gay saunas are filled with magazines depicting skin-heads with tatoos, all whites, and not one black gay model! I also note at the gay bars, and functions that there is a severe segregation, and deep hate, but of course the barriers only come down when they want to copulate you as nothing more than black meat. The gays have benefited from the black cause, yet they themselves are orchestrating hate; practise it, and reinforce white supremacy in their magazines. I have never come across a white gay, especially those who are young, who didn’t have racist attituides. In fact, I am thinking of writing a short story dealing with this subject.

Oh dear. I’m truely glad that America is an isolationist entity in this world.
It seems like the Black community in America have this inferiority complex and coninually shout “racist” whenever they feel they are being hard-done by. Get over it.
If you continually use the word racist and racism then it becomes a self perpetuating barrier of mistrust and loathing between communities.
Seeing as you like to bandy the word racist around, let me just say that you are the one who comes across as racist.
Take a step back and actually read your blog as you would expect a random visitor would…. you’ll find you come across as someone who has a lot of hate and anger and your targeting it against a social demographic that you are personally villifying.
You have issues… address them before writing ridiculous blogs against people you have no doubt never met (and hence you should not judge).

Seek to fix yourself before seeking to fix the society you live in.

Speaking as an American, a Black man, and a gay man, I must say that things are quite rough here. To the person who wrote, “It seems like the Black community in America have this inferiority complex and coninually shout “racist” whenever they feel they are being hard-done by. Get over it.” It’s quite interesting that you found the time to read this. When it comes to screaming “racist”, our words have held quite true in many instances in the United States. Many people are quite clueless as to racism the dating scene, making friends, politics, etc. It isn’t easy for anyone who’s a minority, PERIOD. Before making comments like that, it’s suitable to analyze socioeconomic differences as well as common stereotypes; I agree that we will get nowhere in being hateful, but here’s the problem I have: Why is it that when we try to rebuild our communities using our influence (which whites often do) we get criticized for trying to put ourselves on par with whites?

As far as being gay, I’ve had no issues with white men because beyond having quite a few beautiful and caring gay white men in my life. I still love them and remember their names. I must say though that I agree with him on the issue of their hegemony in the gay community; it’s almost a form of social engineering via the media. There is a whole beautiful rainbow down to the darkest colors and it needs to be recognized.

To the writer, respectfully I ask you: What are you doing to affect change? Have you started an advocacy group for GBMs in Canada? What are you doing to break this invisible barrier and make gay black men like yourself more visible without being spiteful?

The responses of Travis and Mark (“whites actually have it harder than blacks!” “black people’s problem is their ‘inferiority complex,’ not our racism!”) blindingly illustrate exactly what your essay makes crystal clear–that white gays who resent the homophobia that they face STILL often at best ignore, and at worst practice, racism aimed at blacks.

The fact that they feel comfortable coming on YOUR blog to tell YOU, as a black man, what you are and are not experiencing is so sadly typical of the arrogance and dismissiveness that white gays share with other whites–and makes it clear that anti-black sentiment remains an important bonding point for all whites, even those who would otherwise be marginalized among their own.

This makes Mark’s advice that you “seek to fix yourself before seeking to fix the society you live in” especially ironic–since the same white gays who destroyed Isaiah Washington and think that Jennifer Hudson somehow “owes them” something aren’t doing a damn thing to fix themselves–or THEIR society. They’re just jumping on the “black people are the problem” bandwagon, and hoping that doing so will prevent their fellow whites from turning on THEM, as they are all too wont to do.

White gays are well-aware that whites who might aim their discriminatory hostility at white gays will instead keep it trained on the traditional black scapegoat–and thus free white gays from the threat of taking on the “lowest of the low” status they might otherwise have to bear. We’ve seen this tactic time and time again, whether from white women [Hilary and her PUMAs, anyone?], white jews, white latinos, etc.–the appeal to white skin privilege when cleavages among whites threaten a particular white “minority” and the contemptuous dismissal of any black critique of the white tendency to eagerly “play the race card” that they project on to black people.

The truly sad part is that white gays’ self-debasing embrace of homophobic white racism has earned them absolutely nothing–other than DOMA, “don’t ask, don’t tell,” etc. They just get to share a sense of white superiority to blacks with other whites–until those other whites deny them some right, or choose to mock and brutalize them. How pathetic.

Your assertion that black people have it harder because their blackness is visually evident is wrong; many gay people can be ‘spotted’ just because they are naturally more feminine, making them targets for discrimination.

I believe that both black people and gay people (of any race) experience discrimination. The same goes for people of colour in general. As a white gay male, believe that SOME black people are homophobic, and that SOME white gay people are racist. For that matter, some black people are racist towards white people (although, of course, their racism will not have the institutional power to disadvantage white people). All these things are EQUALLY wrong morally.

Let’s all just get along and challenge both racism and homophobia and all forms of bigotry wherever we see them! It’s so offensive to suggest that there’s something intrinsically more bigoted about white gay people. 😦

I don’t believe you!!! There is not now, nor has there ever been – a white gay mafia.

This discrimination you perceive is all in your head! Can you spell “paranoid”? The truth is – people don’t care – and that’s a great thing!

No one cares about the color of another persons skin, and no one I know cares about the sexuality of another.

Here’s what people do care about: they care about trying to make a decent living in a tough economy. They care about their loved ones, about the environment, about people in third world countries that truly have rough lives – something to gripe about.

For someone to live in a free society, and think the issues you voice should be taken seriously – you must have an incredibly easy life.

There is an answer to the question posed at the beginning of this article: “Why Does Society Ignore The Racism Of The White Gays?”
The answer is: Because it’s a myth. It doesn’t exist. It’s something a pampered, spoiled group in our society created so they could feel mistreated, and play the “Victim Card”.

Sadly, most people are followers. I think it is safe to say that most just want to fit in without interrupting the status in quo. Any gay man that is effeminate or flamboyant and expresses his emotions freely, is seen as inferior and as a caricature. This type of person would be targeted in any homogeneous community, be it of color or white.
I have seen Black and White homophobic people join forces to attack what they view as an abhorrent representation of masculinity. I have been threatened by both races and one would think that because I am a man of color I would find Black allies instead of homophobic enemies. Attacks from bigoted White people are always expected (whether it be because I am a non-White or because I am Gay). Gay White men can also be very racist. They encourage racial segregation within the Gay community. Many of them did not grow up in a diverse community and they either have an aversion to or they make a fetish of non-western- looking people.
With that being said, I also agree that my theory holds true in other homogeneous communities that are not necessarily all White.
I believe that the true issue here is racism regardless of sexual orientation.
White people have been in power for way too long. They are soon to become a minority in the Countries they rule. These Western (European cultures) colonized lands that were not theirs for the taking and now, those same people that were overwhelmed by their oppression are slowly begin to overpopulate their countries, bringing along with them their resentments.
It is the responsibility of the oppressed to educate and enlighten the blind masses. We are all truly equal. It is our responsibility to ensure that human rights and opportunities for advancement are available to all without discrimination.

thank you for making this blog! I have wondered for years the plight of white gay men and their attempts to go after the black community and exclude them on all levels! thank you thank you! What else i find so interesting on how many white gay men are out to out black men out of the closet, whether that is true or not. Plus, i believe have the right to out themselves if they want. But, white gay men act as though they are the supreme of gayness and have the overall authority over other men’s sexuality even that of the so called closet gay black men! I drives me fucking insane whenever they go out of their way to express their doubts of a black man’s heterosexuality, purely based on assumptions and stereotypes and whenever they can’t find any evidence to support their claim, they make up shit! Again, thank you for making this blog!

thank you for responding to my post on your wonderful well written blog. I was having issues with a white gay male co-worker who seems to be overwhelmed into people’s perceived or assumed sexuality, particularly black men. Though, I am not a fan of outing people or making assumptions about anyone’s sexuality, i believe that have a choice to state his or her sexuality, whether they believe they were born gay or not, is not my place. I try my best to respect people’s individual beliefs for themselves, even if I may have a different opinion.

But, what I see with white gay men is this attempt to expose black men, i am not sure if the Down Low thing has something to do with it. I am not sure if they are threaten by black (these perceived) men’s ability to live a double life or assume that they are getting away with something. What I notice, as well as I hate is the assumption that every gay person, white, black or any race will experience the same feeling or acceptance as they do! I disagree that white males coming out experience is totally different from black gay men and Hispanics and even Asian males.

Going back to the white gay male co-worker. He also seems to be more into so call exposing or outing perceived black gay men over white closet gay men. For example, one white heterosexual work colleague is heterosexual but he is beyond cute and a very nice person, but he likes women only and respects others who are not into women. Since, he is white and desirable and very metro-sexual, he gets a pass. What I see in my opinion, is that openly white gay (mafia type) males will protect so called white heterosexuals that they desire or fantasize about to the fullest. Black men in the same category must be exposed, outed and lives made to be ruined based on assumption of sexuality.

And last complaint, why do these white gay men tend to make the relations to their homophobia experience (which I agree does exist) to the struggles of black people? I had to break down this one white gay man that racism affects all black people, from children to adults, to our grandparents, our great-grand parents, our neighbors, our cousins, our friends, strangers who are black and we don’t even know every well, and the list goes on. White gay men have their family, their friends and those who are willing to support them, give them jobs, help them financially, etc. Hell, I even know a few who parents and wealthy relatives financially support them and warns them not to date or sleep with black gay men!

Thank you for having this blog. I feel relived, because I felt as though I was alone in this crisis! Will you be posting any more like this in the near future? I will bookmark this blog.

Hello John, you make a lot of cogent arguments. It is inaccurate for white gays to make the assumption that just because we are all homosexual means our experiences will be the same. Gay people of colour we have to deal with the intersection of race, class, gender, sexual orientation, and culture.

The white gays are the majority and we are not they still have white skin privilege.

Whiteness is still a place of privilege in our racist society while blackness is still on the margins.

People want the black community to take charge and responsibility for their actions and not blame others or their screw ups. And that what I trying to say along! The hell with trying to talk to white people first, WE need to talk among ourselves first!

RTF you are one lame person you complain about blacks yet you ignore the racism of the rich white queers you are a hypocrite!

Obama is a politician what did you expect for him to for the gay community? Also, if you are indeed a black person I think you are a pathetic and sad black man.

Yes Obama should be doing more for the gay community. The problem I have with the white gay leadership in America is there entrenched essentialism and racism against blacks!

These rich white queers and organizations such as Advocate Magazine, Out Magazine, GLAAD and HRC make racist and essentialist arguments about Obama’s blackness! I think that’s the part I find most offensive.

The white gays can continue to attack the black community all they want because they are NOT getting the community`s support by harbouring anti black racist attitudes.

Also the term “black homophobia” is essentialist the term you should just be using is homophobia. There is homophobia EVERYWERE on this damn planet it is not reserved just for blacks!

You also fail to address the RACISM of white gays! Yes, there is homophobia in the black community and I have always condemned it. However, you fail to acknowledge the power of white homophobia. Who do you think make the anti gay legislations legal in America? It certainly isn’t black people it is white people! So you need to be turning the gaze back at the people that have the real political power in North America to discriminate against gays and that’s white folks not us.

  28. RTF's avatar
    RTF says :

The reason I said that blacks are homophobic is because I want through hell with them. First of all, I am not a pathetic or a hypocritical black men at all. I was 9 years old when a class mate told the other kids that I was a Fudgepacker and I put my d*&^ in other boys mouths, and stay away from me. How would you react to something like that? HUH? I know white people do some fuck up racist shit, and I am not ignoring that at all. I have seen dating site profiles that state they do not want to date black men, and that’s just plain wrong.

And I have bought the magazines that you have mentioned, and I don’t see us in them, and I stop buying them. I want to see more of us represented in a positive light for a change. And my question to you is this. I suppose to get over the fact of being abused by my own people? I still have some of the pain, scars, resentment, and anger from that. What, I suppose to defend the same people who hurt me?

And, how can I address the racism of white gays? What, don’t associate with them? There is no place for me to go here where I live to be around other black gay men and women! I live in a city that is racist towards white people, and I want to move the hell away! You have any suggestions where I should move to be around other black men and women of color that are LGBT, and are movers and shakers of the community? Why everybody hate white people all of the sudden?

    Im all ears right now.

  29. orvillelloyddouglas's avatar
    orvillelloyddouglas says :

RTF I am not trying to diminish the homophobia you may have experienced from other blacks. I have experienced homophobia from black people as well. An argument is marginalized people should be more sympathetic to the concerns of other marginalized people. On my blog I talk about homophobia in our community too. However, I don`t make generalizations that all blacks are homophobes because that is not true!

If you want to hang out or be around white gays that is your choice. However, from my personal experiences some white queers need to check their white skin privilege. There is racism in the gay community and I don`t see you ADDRESSING this fact.

You seem very angry at black people yet you fail to acknowledge the institutionalzed racism.

However, you are making an essentialist argument that “blacks are homophobic.“ I am black and I am not homophobic. You can say SOME blacks are homophobic that makes sense and SOME are not.

Remember, black people do not have POLITICAL POWER in America to change anti gay laws. Yes, Barack Obama is the president of the United States but same sex marriage laws are not federal laws those are for the states to deal with.

I agree that Barack Obama should be doing more for gays and lesbians in America.

But your comment just loses power because you seem very angry. I think your anger is displaced.

  30. RTF's avatar
    RTF says :

My anger is displaced how? You still haven’t answered of my questions to you. How can I address the racism?

Then, how can we change the laws? I want the laws changed, not stay the same. I do not want to have my family or my life partners family come in our house and try to sell shit if something happens to either one of us, they start selling our stuff and put either one of us out of our house that we bought together. I just wish that the black gay community just get up and go out and raise hell, and not sit on the side lines. Institutionalized racism needs to disappear period! I have experience some forms of discrimination far as dating, but that issue, I’m over that. That’s their loss, not mine.

It is time to call out the people who have the political power out on the carpet for people to see, and replace them with people who understands that abuse of power, do not win elections nor friends. It’s time out for the foolishness that goes on Congress and many other places that where laws are decided everyday.

  31. orvillelloyddouglas's avatar
    orvillelloyddouglas says :

RTF maybe you should join a black gay rights group or go make your own group. If you want social change the answer starts with you. You need to examine why gay rights is so important to you and take it from there. I cannot tell you what you can or cannot do that is your personal decision.

Your comments ignore the intersectionality of black gays and lesbians. Black gays and lesbians are not just black and gay we are both. So for some black gays and lesbians we have to decide whether a particular issue is important to us to be concerned about.

I personally do not care about gay marriage that is not my struggle or my fight.

If you want to address racism then perhaps deal with it when it happens. If you want to educate gay white people about racism go hold a 101 racism seminar or conduct a workshop.

I am suggesting that for a lot of black gays and lesbians gay rights is not our main focus.

We have multiple identities we do not just fit into one category. It seems to me you want black gays to focus on gay rights issues. Now if you care about gay rights only that is your fight. However, many black LGBT people have to deal with the oppressive racism and prejudice first. We are black and we will die black. Gay rights is important to me but black rights are even more important to me.

  32. RTF's avatar
    RTF says :

Not ask a dumb question, how i’m ignoring the intersectionality of black gays and lesbians? Can you explain this for me, so I m clear on this.

But what are the black rights you are taking about? I hear this all of the time from different places, and man, its confusing some days.

Not being turned down for a job, housing, health care, fair wages on a job, dealing with criminal justice system, and many others too numerous to list, as one example. Or I’m wrong? The reason I am asking is because, I want to see changes happen for blacks. I seen the hurt, pain, anger, resentment, scars, and last, disappointment on peoples faces when they are subjected to abuse of power.

Or maybe, I just need to be educated a little more on this, because I was shielded when I was growing up from this. My parents did not want me growing up hating other people that are different. Because, I personally, want all forms of discrimination to end once and for all, even though, it might not happen in my life time, but, at least, get the ball rolling. Again, I just want to understand, so that when the issue come up anywhere, I m ready for it.

You come across as someone bitter toward whatever your life experience has been. Before generalizing without any substantial facts, I think you should keep in mind there are 300+ Million people in the US, and you haven’t met them all, nor would I figure you’ve met a majority. If you seem to be descriminated against because you’re black, maybe it’s not that at all. Maybe it’s more that you’re an arrogant, dim-witted fool, and there really are better candidates than you more deserving of opportunities you’re not being selected for.
